Chris Jericho Important Facts
- $165,000
- He used White Zombie’s “Soul Crusher” and “Electric Head Pt. 2 (The Ecstasy)” as entrance music in ECW, and their “Thunder Kiss ’65” in Japan. The Thrillseekers used Danger Danger’s “Rock America” in SMW, which Jericho hated.
- The fictitious backstory for his heavy metal band Fozzy is that they were stuck in Japan for 20 years due to a bogus contract and could only sit back and watch as other bands had success with “their” songs.
- His favorite movie is This Is Spinal Tap (1984), and when he met director Rob Reiner, seriously annoyed him by asking numerous questions about it. At WCW/NWO Fall Brawl: War Games (1998), he paid homage to the famous “Hello Cleveland!” scene in a parody of Goldberg (Bill Goldberg)’s dramatic guided entrance by getting “lost” on his way to the ring.
- He is a Christian and even considered calling himself “Christian” Chris Jericho at the start of his career. He would later hold the WWE World Tag Team Titles with the wrestler Christian (Jason Reso), although the wrestler took the name from the actor Christian Slater.
- Debuted for New Japan Pro Wrestling in January 1997 and was repackaged as “Super Liger,” based off of Jushin Thunder Liger (Jushin Liger). Unfortunately, the mask and costume he was given was poorly designed and, after one match with Koji Kanemoto, the gimmick was scrapped and never used again.
- Two of his biggest influences are Shawn Michaels and Ricky Steamboat. He has had matches at WrestleMania against both men: Michaels at “WrestleMania XIX (2003)” and Steamboat at “The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania (2009)”.
- Has stated in multiple interviews that when he joined the WWE, his biggest goal was to be the Intercontinental Champion, because his idol Ricky Steamboat had been Intercontinental Champion as well (having defeated Randy Savage in a classic match-up from WrestleMania III). Jericho not only accomplished this only months after debuting, but has held the title more times than anyone else.
- Auditioned for roles in Beerfest (2006) and Knocked Up (2007).
- Based his on-screen persona from 2008 on the character Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men (2007).
- Credits the match between Shawn Michaels and John Cena on the April 23rd 2007 episode of WWE Raw (1993) for igniting his desire return to professional wrestling after a two year absence.
- He is a big fan of science fiction.
- Resides in Tampa, Florida [2008].
- Chris has dual citizenship in both Canada and the United States.
- Jericho was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame on September 25, 1997.
- On his birthday he flies to Mexico, then to Japan, then back to Mexico. (This way he has two birthdays in one day, due to the change in time zones!!)
- Children: Ash Edward Irvine (born September 24, 2003) and twin daughters Cheyenne Lee Irvine and Sierra Loretta Irvine (born July 18, 2006).
- Currently resides in Tampa, Florida and Los Angeles, California.
- His favorite channel is VH1 and he frequently appears on programs for the channel.
- Previous Managers: Theodore Long, Ralphus, Chyna, Mr Curtis Hughes, Stephanie McMahon, Trish Stratus.
- Jericho was spotted by Mexican promoter Carlos Elizondro while wrestling in the San Francisco area. Jericho became Corazon De Leon south of the border.
- In April 1993, Jericho joined the EMLL promotion in Mexico, where he worked off and on for three years.
- Jericho formed a team with Lance Storm in Calgary called “Sudden Impact”. SMW promoter James E. Cornette renamed them the Thrillseekers.
- Was once managed by Teddy Long.
- Chris Jericho and his band Fozzy performed their first ever UK Gig on February 10th 2005 at Rock City in Nottingham. In true rock star fashion, Jericho was 40 minutes late for the show.
- Holds the record for capturing the most WWE Intercontinental Title reigns (eight times).
- Was the first and only person to capture all 5 of the WWE Championships (WWE World Title, Intercontinental Title, Tag Team Titles, European Title and the Hardcore Title) until John Bradshaw Layfield (John Layfield).
- During the summer of 1999, a millennium countdown appeared on WWF TV. People noticed it really didn’t countdown to the Millenium, but instead August 9, 1999 at 10:00 PM. At that hour during a promo by the Rock, Chris Jericho made his debut in WWF, and it has been touted as the best debut in WWE’s history.
- Says that Shawn Michaels was a huge role model for him early in his career. Jericho actually tried to dress and wrestle like Shawn did when he was one half of the Rockers (with Marty Jannetty). Later, these two faced each other at WrestleMania XIX, in one of the best matches of 2003.
- Aside from his wrestling career, he appears regularly on VH1 shows like “I love the 90s” and “Best Week Ever.”
- Won his first WWF European Title at WrestleMania 2000 only to lose it the very next night on RAW to Eddie Guerrero.
- Before making it big in pro wrestling, Jericho was a bouncer and a model in Canada.
- Took his stage name “Jericho” from the album “Walls of Jericho” from the German Power Metal band Helloween.
- He and Lance Storm were two of only four of their original class of 18 to finish training at Stu Hart’s Dungeon Wrestling School.
- He is the ninth and last wrestler to have held both the WWE World Heavyweight Title and the WCW World Heavyweight Title, after Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Bret Hart, Diesel/Kevin Nash, the Rock (Dwayne Johnson), the Giant/the Big Show (Paul Wight) and Kurt Angle. However, Hogan, Savage, Flair, Hart, Nash and the Big Show all won the WCW World Heavyweight Title when WCW was an active promotion, while Rock, Jericho and Angle all won it in 2001 after WWE had purchased WCW.
- During the 2002 Rangers Superskate on Jan 19, 2002, Chris Jericho was attacked by his own father at Madison Square Garden because Chris & his father were competing on different teams.
- Although he wasn’t born there, he was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and was married there.
- First started his musical career with fellow wrestler Lenny “Dr. Luther” Olson in a Calgary speed metal band
- He wears lifts, so he’s actually only about 5′ 10″, which is why he says that he is the shortest WWF champion of all time. Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) is officially the same height, but doesn’t look it because he and Jericho have different body types.
- Was voted “Manitoba’s Sexiest Man” in a poll in a Canadian newspaper “The Winnipeg Sun”.
- Son of hockey player Ted Irvine.
- Won the WWE Heavyweight Title from Triple H on April 17, 2000, but was stripped of the title (and the match was stricken from the record) 15 minutes later.
- Said two of his favorite people to wrestle are Chris Benoit and Triple H of WWE.
- Also known as Moongoose McQueen, he is the lead singer for the rock group “Fozzy”.
