William Ray Norwood Jr. Wiki Biography
Born 17 January 1981 in the city of McComb in Mississippi, USA, actor, singer, reality television personality and songwriter, William Ray Norwood Jr. will be more familiar to most hip hop and R&B enthusiasts by his stage name – Ray J, the man behind several successful albums which, together with his acting career, have boosted his net worth to today’s level. Brother to the famous American entertainer Brandy Norwood, Ray J has collaborated with his sister on a number of well-received projects – and his solo career is nothing to scoff at, either, including several Top Ten releases in both albums and singles. Involvement in several scandalous affairs has done little to hinder Ray J’s growing popularity, and as he remains a name to watch in the music and reality television industries, Ray’s net worth is sure to keep growing.
So just how rich is Ray J? As of late 2016, Ray’s net worth is estimated by authoritative sources to be over $10 million. Ray J owes his wealth to his careers as a singer and reality television personality – he has released a number of well-received albums, including several collaborations with his elder sister, Brandy, and he has also appeared in several notable reality television shows. In particular, his appearances in both seasons of “Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business” seems to have given Ray J’s net worth a considerable boost.
Ray J was the second child of Gospel singer Willie Norwood and the future manager of both their children, Sonja Bates-Norwood. Together with his sister Brandy, Ray J had an early introduction to the world of music, thanks in large part to their father’s work with various local choirs. When the Norwood family moved from Mississippi to California, the door to Ray J’s future career opened wide, and the future music celebrity made his real television debut as a regular in the 1993 sitcom “The Sinbad Show” – having already appeared in several commercials beforehand. For a time, Ray J featured alongside his sister in the UPN sitcom “Moesha”, and this early career in acting has certainly contributed to making Ray’s net worth what it is.
After “Moesha” was cancelled in 2001, Ray J began to focus instead on his budding music career. By that point, Ray J had already released his debut album, the 1995 “Everything You Want”. In 2001, he returned to perform a cover of Phil Collins’s song “Another Day in Paradise” together with Brandy, and the cover proved a huge success – making it to the Top Ten in a number of European countries, including the UK and Germany. Having broken out as a major name in music, Ray J went on to perform together with fellow hip hop artists Rodney Jerkins and Lil Kim in producing his second studio album, “This Ain’t A Game”. The album was a commercial success, and its lead single “Wait A Minute” was ranked #8 on the R&B/Hip Hop chart. Since then, and thanks in large part to his growing popularity as a singer and songwriter, Ray J has made several appearances on reality television, including participating together with Brandy in their own show – the VH1 series “Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business”.
In his personal life, Ray J married his co-star on VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” Princess Love in August 2016. On a less positive note, Ray J has been involved in a number of controversies of late – recently, his hit single “I Hit It First” has been alleged to be aimed at his former paramour Kim Kardashian and her husband, Kanye West. Further, Ray J is currently facing trouble with the law, and is set to appear at a hearing regarding his several charges – which include vandalism of a police car and resisting arrest.
