To begin with, Estes grew up as an only child. He attended a the private high school Santa Monica College, from which he matriculated in the middle of 1996.

Concerning his professional career, initially Will appeared in commercials, among others for Kellogg’s, Captain Crunch, Skippy Peanut Butter as well as Desex and the City. In 1988, he briefly replaced actor Justin Gocke portraying the character of Brandon DeMott Capwell in the series “Santa Barbara”, then in the following year joined the cast of the series “The New Lassie” in which he played the young Will McCullough. In 1993 he voiced the character of the young Jonny Quest in the animated film “Jonny’s Golden Quest”, before being cast in the series “Kirk” (1995 – 1996), in which he played Cory Hartman. In 1997, Will joined the recurring cast of the series “The Secret World of Alex Mack” (1997 – 1998) in which he played Hunter Reeves, a young man who arrives in Paradise Valley to investigate the disappearance of his father, and who soon becomes the confidant and boyfriend of Alexandra Mack (Larisa Oleynik).

Afterwards, Estes joined the main cast of the series “Meego” in which he played Trip Parker, a young man who together with his brothers, discovers an alien. In 1998, he was selected for the series “Kelly Kelly” in which he interpreted Sean Kelly, one of the children of Kelly Novak (Shelley Long). More, the actor appeared as a guest star in several episodes of the series “7th Heaven” (1999 – 2000) in which he played Andrew Nayloss.

In the new millenium, he appeared in the movie “U-571”, in which he played the sailor Ronald Parker. Later, Estes joined the main cast of the television series “American Dreams” (2002 – 2005) in which he played ex-football player and soldier J. J. Pryor the eldest son of John Pryor (Tom Verica), which significantly raised his net worth, and was then the cast in the series “Reunion” in which he played Will Malloy, until the cancellation of the series in 2006.

Since 2010, he has been in the main cast of the series “Blue Bloods”, in which he plays police officer Jamison Reagan. In 2012, Will appeared in the movie “The Dark Knight Rises”, then in 2013 he was seen in two feature films – “Line of Duty” and “Automotive”. The following year, he interpreted Morgan Pierce in the film “Dangerous Attraction”, followed in 2015 by starring in the film “Anchors”.
