Born Wanya Jemraine Morris on the 29th July 1973, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA, he is a singer, best known to the world as part of the R&B group Boyz II Men, with which he has released 11 studio albums, including “Cooleyhighharmony” (1991), “Evolution” (1997), and “Colide” (2014), among others. His career has been active since the late 1980s.
Have you ever wondered how rich Wanya Morris is, as of mid- 2016? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Wanya’s net worth is as high as $60 million, earned through his successful career in the entertainment industry.
Little is known about his early life and family; he attended Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, and was a part of the school`s choir. Also in the choir were members of the band Unique Attraction – Nathan Morris, Marc Nelson, Goerge Balid, Jon Shoats and Marguerite Walker. After a tumble in the group`s line up, Wanya was brought into the group in 1987; a year later, it changed the name to Boyz To Men. In 1989, they performed at the school`s Valentine’s Day dance party, and after it ended, members snuck up into backstage of the New Edition group, who held the concert in their hometown that night. Boyz to Men sang for Michael Bivins, a member of the New Edition, who was impressed on the spot by the boys` talent. Soon he became their manager and producer.
Before the group signed with the Motown records, it went through another line-up change, and was reduced to a quartet with Michael McCary, Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman. Their first album came out in 1991, entitled “Cooleyhighharmony”, and it topped the US R&B Chart while also achieving multi-platinum status in the US, platinum in Canada and gold in the United Kingdom. Album sales certainly increased Wanya`s net worth by a large margin.
Three years later, the group`s second album came out, “II”, topping again the US R&B Chart and also the US Billboard Hot 200, achieving 12 times platinum status, and adding a substantial amount to Wanya`s net worth. In the 1990s, the group released one more album, entitled “Evolution” (1997), repeating the chart success of its predecessor, while achieving double platinum status.
The group was reassigned to Universal Music Group when it bought out Polygram, which is the parent company of Motown. They released only one album for Universal, after deciding to depart from the record label, called “Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya”, which foretold the decline in the group`s popularity, as it only achieved gold status in Canada and the USA.
After Universal they signed with the Arista records, releasing one album, “Full Circe” in 2002, which was the least popular in their career thus far. It reached No. 5 on the US R&B chart, and achieved gold status in the USA.
Since then, their popularity declined quickly, and also Michael McCary left the group due to health problems. The rest continued as a trio, founding their own record label MSM Music Group, and released their next album in 2004, “Throwback, Vol. 1”, which reached into the R&B Chart at No. 8. In 2006 their album “The Remedy”, failed to chart, while the 2009 album “Love” reached No. 14 on the US R&B chart, and No. 114 on the US Billboard Hot 200. They have released two more albums through their MSM Music Group “Twenty” (2011), and “Colide” (2014), all adding steadily to Wanya’s net worth.
As a part of the Boyz II Men, Wanya has won four Grammy Awards, and also the group received its star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.Wanya has also had success on his own, releasing two studio albums, while also participating in the hit show “Dancing with the Stars with professional dancer Lindsay Arnold. The two finished fourth overall, which only increased further his net worth.
Regarding his personal life, Wanya has been married to Traci Nash since 2002, and they have four children. Previously, at the peak of his and the group`s popularity, Wanya was in a relationship with the R&B singer Brandy.
