Tony Steven Casillas Wiki Biography

Born Tony Steven Casillas on the 26th October 1963 in Tulsa, Oklahoma USA, Tony is a retired American Football player, who played as defensive tackle for such National Football League (NFL) teams as the Atlanta Falcons (1986-1990), Dallas Cowboys (1991-1993), Kansas City Chiefs (1994), New York Jets (1994-1995), and again for the Dallas Cowboys (1996-1997) before he retired.

Have you ever wondered how rich Tony Casillas is, as of mid- 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Tony’s net worth is as high as $5 million, an amount earned largely through his successful sports career.

Tony is of mixed ancestry; his father is Mexican, while his mother is of Irish and Native American descent. He went to Tulsa East Central High School, where he started playing football; during his high school career, Tony received All-State honors.

After matriculation, Tony enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, where he continued to play football. Unfortunately, the start of his career in college was troubled by health problems; first, he tore his ankle and then contracted mononucleosis, and so was red-shirted for the first season. However, he started playing the second year, and with limited playing time Tony made only 10 tackles.

Nevertheless, for the next season, Tony was moved to the nose guard position, and his numbers improved to the point where he received consensus All-American and first-team All-Conference honors.

1985 was the breakout year for young Tony, as he won several awards and honors, including the Lombardi Award, then being named as the UPI Lineman of the Year, and the Big Eight Conference defensive player of the year. The same year, he and his team won the NCAA Championship, defeating Penn State.

After a successful season in college and also finished studies with a degree in public relations, Tony declared for the 1986 NFL Draft, and was selected as the second pick by the Atlanta Falcons.

Almost immediately Tony made an impact in the Falcons’ defense, playing nose guard and recording 111 tackles and a sack, which earned him a spot in the All-rookie team at the season’s end. The following season wasn’t quite the happy one, as he broke his left fibula and spent the majority of the season on the injured reserves list. 1987 season was shortened by a strike, and Tony played in nine games, which were enough for him to record 72 tackles. However, instead of improving, Tony had troubles playing professional football and asked for help from a professional psychologist before the start of 1988 season. He managed to return to the field before the season officially began, and he tied his rookie season numbers with 111 tackles. In 1989 he recorded one of his best seasons in NFL, having 152 tackles, which earned him second-team All-Pro naming, and was also selected as the Pro-Bowl alternate.

After the fantastic season, Tony wanted a new contract, however, he wasn’t given one, and soon enough disagreements with the coach and other stuff members began. This resulted in a trade in 1991 to the Dallas Cowboys. Because of the disputes with Falcons, his numbers drastically declined in the last two years, fortunately, that all changed once he started playing for the Cowboys. He was their starting left tackle, beating No. 1 overall pick Russell Maryland for the position, and in a great way helped Cowboys win back-to-back Super Bowls in 1992 and 1993.

After his contract expired, Tony signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1994 but didn’t make a single appearance, as he was soon released from the club because of his health problems.

He took a short break from playing football and then joined the New York Jets, but injuries started troubling him and in two years he played in only 16 games. He was released from the club in 1996.

Tony thought through his options and returned to the Dallas Cowboys as a reserve, signing a two-year contract, which only further increased his net worth. He played in 31 games in two seasons, and then retired from football on the 25th February 1998 with 724 tackles and 23 sacks.

Regarding his personal life, Tony is married to Tamara; the couple has two children together, sons Jed and Chase Casillas.
