Tony Leung Ka-fai Wiki Biography
Tony Leung Ka-fai is a many times-awarded actor, born on 1st February 1958 in Hong Kong, China. He is known for a long list of films he has appeared in, starting from his 1983 debut movie “Burning of the Imperial Palace” and later works, including “Prison on Fire” (1987), “Gunmen” (1988), “Inspector Pink Dragon” (1991) and many others in his 30 year long acting career.
Have you ever wondered how rich Tony Leung Ka-fai is? According to sources it has been estimated that Tony Leung Ka-fai’s overall net worth is $30 million, which impressive sum of money Tony has acquired by having about one hundred acting credits from the early 1980s to nowadays. As he is still an active member of the entertainment industry, his net worth continues to grow.
Leung grew up beside his father who was a movie projectionist and this was probably how he first discovered his love for movies and acting. After graduating from college, he enrolled at Hong Kong’s TVB Actors’ School where he studied the formal dramatic course. Soon after, with a group of friends, he founded a magazine dealing with arts and culture, and then made his acting debut appearing in director Li Han-hsiang’s movie “Burning of the Imperial Palace” in 1983.. The same year, Leung was awarded Best Actor for his role in “Reign Behind The Curtain”. However, despite his good performance, Leung was blacklisted by Taiwanese distributors for political reasons for many years before returning to the entertainment industry in 1987’s action thriller “Prison on Fire”.
From this year on, Tony’s fruitful acting career began, being an actor who collaborated with some of the most recognized directors such as Jean-Jacques Annaud, Wong Kar-Wai and Fruit Chan. Some of his other important roles that followed include the films “A Better Tomorrow 3” (1989) and “God Of Gamblers Returns” (1994). In 1991 he cooperated with French director Jean-Jacques Annaud and appeared in his movie “The Lover” which is based on the novel. A year later, he won his second Best Actor award for playing a police detective in “92 Legendary La Rose Noire”, and then playing various roles in a great number of movies such as “ The Black Panther Warriors”(1993), “Tom, Dick and Hairy”(1993), “The Christ of Nanjing”(1995), “Island of Greed” (1997) and many others, Tony appeared in the 2002 action horror film “Double Vision”, for which role he was nominated for the Best Actor award at the 22nd Hong Kong Film Awards. Three years later, at the same awards ceremony, he won the Best Actor award for his performance in “Election” (2005), a crime film directed by Johnnie To. All contributed significantly to his growing net worth.
His latest career activities include his fourth Best Actor award which he won at the 32nd Hong Kong Film Awards for his role in “Cold War” (2012) – Leung is currently involved in the filming of this films sequel, “Cold War 2”.
When it comes to his life behind the scenes, Tony is married to Jian Jianian (1987) and they have twin daughters. He cites his family as his biggest support in life.
