Thomas James Perkins was born on the 7th January 1932, in White Plains, New York State USA and was a businessman, the co-founder of the firm of venture capital Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Perkins was active in the business industry from 1963 until his passing in June 2016.

Among others they invested in well-known companies including Amazon.com, America Online(AOL), Brio Technology, Electronic Arts, Google, LSI Logic, Quantum, Segway and many others.
It should also be noted that Tom Perkins was the director of such companies as Philips Electronics, Hewlett Packard, Genetech, Corning Glass, Compaq and Applied Materials. From 1974 to 1997, he held the position of the chairman of the dominant manufacturer of fault tolerant computer systems Tandem Computers, and later served as the chairman of Genetech. Due to the scandal of information leaks, Perkins resigned from the Hewlett Packard board in 2006, although later the investigation showed that the source of the above mentioned leaks was Dr. George Keyworth. What is more, Perkins was involved in another scandal while sitting on the board of directors of multi-national mass media corporation entitled News Corporation in 2011. This time it was a ‘phone hacking affair in which it has been speculated that Perkins again might be involved.
In addition to being involved in business, Tom Perkins released three books. The first one was on his pre-World War II classic car collection “Classic Supercharged Sports Cars” (1984). Then he had wrote the novel “Sex and the Single Zillionaire” (2006), and afterwards Tom released the memoir book “Valley Boy: The Education of Tom Perkins” (2007), all of which contributed to his net worth.
Finally, in the personal life of the businessman, he was married to Gerd Thune-Ellefsen until her death in 1994, and with whom he had two children, and was then married to Danielle Steele from 1998-2002. Tom Perkins died in Marin County, California after a prolonged illness in 2016, being 84 years old.
