Ronald Isley Wiki Biography
Ronald Isley, the American singer and music composer, was born on 21 May 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Kelly and Sallye Bernice Isley. He is particularly famous as the lead singer and co-founder of the family venture music group ‘The Isley Brothers’ and a major part of his net worth comes from it.
So can you have any guesses about how rich is Ronald Isley? According to sources, his net worth is over $2 million which is accumulating mainly through the numerous albums released and performances given in his seven decades long singing career.
Ronald’s career started at the very early age of three, when he sang at a spiritual contest organised by Union Baptist Church, and won a $25 bond for it. Along with his brothers O’Kelly, Rudolph and Vernon, he regularly sang in the church choir, and by the age of seven he was singing alongside many notable singers at reputed venues. In 1955, they formed a quartet, but unfortunately Vernon died in a bike accident and they stopped singing for almost a year. In 1957, they moved to New York and made their first recording as a trio, ‘The Cow Jumped Over The Moon’ for the Teenage label. Although this and a few of their other solo recordings didn’t sell well, they became an instant hit at performing. The RCA Records producer Howard Bloom saw them at one of such events and immediately signed a contract with them.
Their first RCA release ‘Turn To Me’ proved to be a flop show, but the second one ‘Shout’ was a big hit during 1959. In 1962, the song ‘Twist and Shout’ with Wand Records was their other chart-buster, which added generously to Ronald’s net worth. In 1964, they launched their own record label, ‘T-Neck’, but it proved to be a failure and they signed with another label, Tamla of Motown Records. Here too they produced only one hit, ‘This Old Heart Of Mine’ in 1966.
After spending a few years in Britain and being a hit there, The Isley Brothers returned to the US in 1969, and turned back to their own T-Neck label, and this time they produced countless hits, one after the other. They also included their two younger brothers Marvin and Ernie, and brother-in-law Chris Jasper in the group and collectively they released several platinum albums and chart-buster songs during the coming years.
In 1997, Ronald was accused of tax evasion and after spending three years in prison, he yet again continued with his singing, releasing hit albums like ‘Eternal’ and ‘Body Kiss’. He had received a Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal By A Duo Or Group for ‘It’s Your Thing’ in 1969, and became a Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall Of Fame inductee in 1992.
In his personal life, Ronald married his colleague singer Angela Winbush in 1993, but they divorced in 2002; he has two daughters with her. In 2005. he married again, to singer Kandy Johnson, who is 35 years younger than him and has a son with her. Ronald lives in St. Louis with his family and enjoys his net worth with them.
