Roger Guenveur Smith was born on 27th July 1955, in Berkeley, California USA, and is an actor, film maker and writer, the winner of an Obie Award for starring in the play “A Huey P. Newton Story” which was also written by Smith himself. Later, it was adapted into a film of the same name by Spike Lee. Roger Guenveur has been active in the entertainment industry since 1988.

In addition to the above mentioned performances, Smith worked on independent films including “King of New York” (1990) by Abel Ferrara, “Deep Cover” (1992) by Bill Duke and “Final Destination” (2000) by James Wong. He was in the main cast alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Lynn Whitfield and Debbi Morgan in the drama film “Eve’s Bayou” in 1997, and starred with Ice Cube in the Kevin Bray film “All About the Benjamins” (2002). The actor was seen in the biographical crime film “American Gansgster” (2007) directed by Ridley Scott, which grossed $266.5 million at the box office as well as collecting a number of awards. Recently, he appeared in the drama film “The Birth of a Nation” (2016) by Nate Parker.
Moreover, the actor starred in the television series “K-Street” (2003), and has participated in several television films and been dubbed Bao-Dur, a character seen in the Star Wars video game: “Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords”.
