Bill’s father was a merchant marine and his mother was a maid. Even though he was born in Kingston, rapper grew up in New York, United States and his nickname represents the Brooklyn district that he lived in. Bill has started his musical career in the hip hop group Geto Boys as a dancer Little Billy in 1984. Later, Little Billy became Bushwick Bill and started performing. The band was signed with the Rap-a-Lot Records label. The group currently consists of Bill and Willie D. The Geto Boys’ singles are based on unusual topics, such as necrophilia, violence, sex and others. Bill has left the group in 1997 but came back in 2002.

The debut solo album Little Big Man was released in 1992. It included the single “Ever So Clear” which was number 1 in the US Hot Rap Singles in 1992. Three years later, Bill released the second album Phantom of the Rapra. In 1998, he released the album No Surrender…No Retreat which was dedicated to Gil Epstein, his friend that was shoot two years before the release of the album. Bushwick Bill dropped three more albums: Universal Small Souljah in 2001, Gutta Mixx in 2005 and My Testimony of Redemption in 2010. The last album is a Christian rap mixtape, since rapper turned into re-born Christian in 2006. No doubt that the sales of the albums have helped Bill to gain his wealth.

There is a whole story behind his missing eye: in 1991 he was shot by his girlfriend during the fight, after Bill threatened her being intoxicated by alcohol. Rapper woke up in the morgue after being affirmed dead. He stayed alive but the conflict left his without an eye. He even wrote a song about this event and addiction to Everclear alcohol “Ever So Clear” which became very popular.

Also, Bushwick Bill was arrested in Georgia in 2010 and even faced deportation for possession of drugs; cocaine and marijuana. Richard Shaw is a Kendrick Lamar, Common Sense and Talib Kweli fan.
