Penn Dayton Badgley Wiki Biography
Penn Dayton Badgley was born on 1 November 1986, in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He is a musician and actor, best known for being a part of the television series “Gossip Girl” as the character Dan Humphrey. He’s also been a part of numerous films, including “John Tucker Must Die”, “Easy A” and “Greetings from Tim Buckley”. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Penn Badgley? As of mid-2016, sources estimate a net worth that is at $8 million, mostly earned through a successful career as an actor. He’s been active in the music industry as well and has also done voice-over work. As he continues his career his wealth is expected to increase.
Due to his parents’ divorce when he was 12 years old, Penn had to split time between Woodlake, Virginia and Seattle, Washington. He attended Woolridge Elementary and then transferred to St. Christopher’s School where he played soccer on a team his father coached. His first experience at acting was when he became part of the Charles Wright Academy. There he joined the Seattle Children’s Theatre and was soon participating in productions while also doing voice-overs for radio stations. Badgley then started to focus more on a singing and acting career. He attended Santa Monica College and was later accepted into the University of California, however, due to contractual obligations he wasn’t able to attend the university, and later went to Lewis & Clark College for two years.
One of Penn’s first major works came in the form of the video game “Mario Golf 64” which he voiced. The following year he had also voiced for the game “Mario Tennis 64”, and made a guest appearance in an episode of “Will & Grace”. Soon he was appearing in other shows such as “What I Like About You” and “Daddio, The Brothers Garcia”. He would start to gain recognition when he became part of the series “The Young and the Restless” as Phillip Chancellor IV. He was nominated a Young Artist Award for his performance. Badgley then appeared in “Do Over” which lasted for less than a season and then appeared in “Drive Thru”. He continued this trend of Warner Brother series such as “The Bedford Diaries” and “The Mountain”, all of which were short lived. His first major film would come in 2006 and it was entitled “John Tucker Must Die”. The film would gross highly in the box office, and his net worth took-off accordingly.
Penn’s breakthrough role would come in a series entitled “Gossip Girl” based on a book series of the same name. He portrayed the character Dan Humphrey who becomes the romantic interest of Blake Lively’s character, Serena van der Woodsen. Soon after starting “Gossip Girl” he would get more opportunities such as in the films “The Stepfather” and “Easy A”, in which he was the romantic interest of Emma Stone’s character Olive. One of his latest films is “Greetings from Tim Buckley” which showcased his musical skills.
In 2014, Badgley started a band and they released a song entitled “Easy” on Soundcloud. The band would soon be called MOTHXR and would sign with the Kitsune label. The band has toured around, supporting other acts, and then releasing their debut album “Centerfold” last February 2016.
For his personal life, it is known that Badgley dated “Gossip Girl” co-star Blake Lively for three years. In 2011, he dated Zoe Kravitz but their relationship ended after two years.
Politically, Penn is known for supporting Barack Obama during the 2008 election. He also helped Brad Pitt’s efforts to bring the FIFA World Cup to the United States.

Penn Dayton Badgley Quotes
- [asked by People magazine what rock star he liked as a child] One of my bigger crushes was Eve. I loved her ’cause she was kind of hard. I love those tattoos.
- Passion is number one and trust is number two. You need to start with a passionate connection, and if you can maintain it and cultivate it, that’s most important. Then trust can develop.
- [talking about getting into character to play Jeff Buckley] At that time I was falling madly in love in a way that was changing me and opening me up. And it was an integral part of playing Jeff. Technically, I could probably play guitar and sing better now because I have a year of consistent experience under my belt, but, at the time, I was kind of going through what Jeff was going through emotionally in the movie in the sense that the worlds of music and love and women and art were opening up to me. Honestly I needed it. It was like this cosmic intervention where, if you’re going to play somebody like Jeff you’ve got to at least be in love, you know? And being in love, real, true, earth-shattering love – even though it sounds hyperbolic I really was going through it – helped me be as good as I could be. For me, this movie is a beautiful step forward. Gossip Girl has given me everything that I have now. It gave me the opportunity to live in New York and to be in a position to get this role. It also put me in New York City so I could meet Zoe.
- I would say, it is a huge commitment to make. I mean it’s amazing that someone chooses to do this for a living and I would encourage it no matter who you are but I think that you just have to realize that it’s a life commitment the same way that someone might commit themselves to becoming a lawyer or a doctor. You know, you go to law school for seven years, I had been in LA for eight years. I feel like that is the equivalent of you know, paying your dues. It’s a lot of work and you can’t really treat it casually if you really want to succeed but it is the best job there is, I think. So if you can do it, I would say, go right ahead.
- I couldn’t date someone who didn’t like dogs. There are exceptions to the rule, but I find that if someone doesn’t like animals, I am a little suspicious of them.
- I want to be an actor. I don’t want to be a celebrity. They are two different things and people have forgotten that they are different.
- I had actually told my agent at one time, ‘If someone ever makes a Jeff Buckley movie, I have to do it’. I felt that it called for a person that hears this music and is deeply, deeply moved more than just someone who is able to look like him, or play like him, or sing like him.
- [on the advantage of fame] I’ve had some fun nights. But I learned early on that that stuff is never satisfying in the end. There’s a reason the French call the moment of orgasm la petite mort, “the little death.” No matter how good the moment was, the moment after is always revealing.
- [on marriage] Yeah. Eventually. I want the ceremony. I want the bond.
- [on what he wish he had been told as a teen] I wish I had known that vulnerability is universal for everyone, regardless of how cool or not cool they are. You have such a heightened awareness of yourself, so even small things seem life-changing – a bad day turns into, ‘Oh my gosh, my life is over.’ If I were still a teen, I would want to hear: ‘It’s okay. Take a deep breath and move on,'”
- I’ve written a song for every woman I’ve been with.
