Pat Bowlen Wiki Biography

Pat Bowlen was born on 18 February 1944, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, USA. He is an attorney and the principal owner and Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL).

So how rich is Pat Bowlen? His net worth is estimated to be a staggering $1 billion, which is largely due to being the longest-tenured owner of Denver Broncos in Colorado for nearly 32 years now.

Bowlen is the son of Arvella Woods and Paul Dennis Bowen, an oilman millionaire who founded Regent Drilling. He was raised Catholic, attending Campion Jesuit Catholic High School and later graduated from the University of Oklahoma with degrees in business and law; he is a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity at the University, Beta Omicron chapter as well as a member of the bar association and law society of Alberta, Canada. He acquired his own wealth by becoming a successful lawyer in Edmonton, Alberta. In addition to practicing law in Alberta, he also worked as an executive for his father’s company and as a real estate developer. He also made major investments in mining. His net continues to grow.

In 1984 with the Denver Bronos facing bankruptcy, Bowlen, together with siblings John, Bill, and Marybeth, bought a majority stake for $78 million; a year later, the rest of his family purchased the rest of the team. Although Bowlen and the Broncos faced several lawsuits against former owner Edgar Kaiser, the team won five American Football Conference (AFC) championships and three Super Bowl titles. Under Bowlen’s ownership, the Broncos have the highest winning percentage of any franchise in the history of the NFL with 334 wins, 212 losses, and 1 tie. In 2014, he resigned control over the Broncos upon being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He has placed his ownership in the Pat Bowlen Trust until one of his children is ready to run the team, and meantime Joe Ellis, Broncos’ team president, assumed control following Bowlen’s departure. Last 1 November 2015, Bowlen was inducted into the Broncos’ Ring of Fame, honoring him with a bronze plaque which stands at the Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium.

Aside from owning the Broncos, Bowlen also became part-owner of Arena Football League’s (AFL) Colorado Crush along with sports magnate Stan Kroenke and former Broncos quarterback John Elway. The Crush won the AFC and AFL titles in 2005.

Bowlen also owns the Denver Outlaws which became part of the Major League Lacrosse’s (MLL) expansion in 2006. The Outlaws have made it to the playoffs five times (2006, 2008, 2009, 2012, and 2014) and won the championship in 2014, making them Bowlen’s franchise with the highest win percentage. His net worth is still growing.

Bowlen was first married to Sally Parker, widow of ex-NFL player Don Parker, with whom he had two daughters – Beth Bowlen Wallace is the Bronco’s director of special projects and events. Pat Bowlen is married to Annabel, and they have five children of whom Patrick is the Broncos’ director of facilities, John also works in Broncos executive training, and Brittany works in the “junior rotation” at the NFL offices in New York.
