Nico Hernandez Wiki Biography
Nico Hernandez was born of 4 January 1996, in Wichita, Kansas USA, and is known as an American boxer who participated in 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
So just how rich is this 21 years old boxer? Sources estimate that Hernandez’s net worth is over $100,000, with his annual salary around $22,264. His income is accumulated from his over six years-long boxing career.
Nico’s father, Lewis Hernandez introduced him to boxing at the age of nine, which had a huge impact on Nico’s further career development as he competed in the National Junior Olympics in 2011 and 2012. His father also coached his best friend, Tony Losey and the duo achieved notable success with Nico winning his first 25 fights. He is widely known for his aggressive and quick boxing style, which he used in fights with sometimes older and bigger opponents. When it comes to his education, Hernandez attended Wichita North High School where he participated in wrestling and improved his skills fighting with older opponents; his school coach is said to have been shocked by Nico’s courageous performance. At this point, Hernandez was still an amateur, but despite that, succeeded in suffering only four losses in 90 fights. When it comes to his scores and awards, he won eight times at Ringside World Championships, held annually in Kansas City and labeled as the biggest amateur boxing event in the world. Alongside that, his notable performances include winning Silver Gloves National Championship six times consecutively, and 2014 National Golden Gloves gold medal. Besides having a close friendship, Tony Losey and Nico were supporting each other’s career until Tony died in 2014.
As of Nico’s Olympic career, he qualified to participate in the US team in 2016, after two failed attempts. The 2016 American Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Tony won the silver medal in the men’s flyweight, defeating Leandro Blanc in the semifinals so securing his spot in the Olympics team, despite losing the final. At the Olympics against Manuel Cappai of Italy he beat his opponent in the second round, then the Russian boxer Vasili Egorov, whom he also defeated, and Carlos Quipo Pilataxi of Ecuador in his third fight, ensuring himself an Olympic medal, the first American boxer to since 2008. Moving forward, in his fourth fight, Nico lost to Hasanboy Dusmatov, who despite winning the fight described his match with Hernandez as one of the most difficult ones he had.
After his Olympic success, Nico stated that he planned to turn to professional, with his father remaining his coach. He made his debut as a professional on 25 March 2017 in a six-round fight broadcast by CBS, winning against Patrick Gutierrez. This was followed by another fight in June 2017, when he fought Jose Rodriguez. Reportedly, Rodriguez called Nico out before the match, which resulted in an infuriated Nico taking his opponent out. He has since had a third win.
When it comes to Hernandez’s personal life, there isn’t even a rumour about any relationship. He has three siblings, two brothers – Keanu and Marciano and a younger sister, Chello. He stated that he feels the presence of his late best friend, Tony Losey whenever he participates in a fight.
