Mohammed is of Ghanaian ancestry, but was raised in Chicago, where his father settled after immigrating from Ghana. He went to Kenwood Academy, from which he matriculated in 1995, then enrolled at the University of Kentucky, and in the first season began playing basketball for the Wildcats, however, his playing time was severely limited due to his weight of 315 pounds. In the first season, Wildcats won the NCAA Championship, and in the second they reached finals, but lost to the Arizona University. However, in the second and third seasons Nazr’s playing time increased, as he shared the center position with Jamaal Magloire, and the two led the Kentucky Wildcats to the second NCAA Championship in 1998.
After the successful 1998 season, Nazr declared for the NBA Draft, and was selected by the Utah Jazz as the 29th overall pick, however, his rights were traded to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Unfortunately, Nazr’s skills weren’t in frequent use by then head coach Larry Brown, since Nazr played only around five minutes in 26 games, and managed to average 1.6 points per game, and 1.4 rebounds. After two and a half unsuccessful seasons at Philadelphia, Mohammed was traded to the Atlanta Hawks, where in his first season he played in 28 games, 19 of which were starts, and averaged his career high with 12.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. During the 2001-2002 season, Nazr played in all 82 games, 73 in the starting line-up, and posted 9.7 points per game, and 7.9 rebounds, which secured him a new contract with the team that only increased his net worth. Unfortunately, 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 seasons weren’t so successful for Nazr, which resulted in a trade to the New York Knicks, where his stint lasted for a season and a half, after which he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs. In his first season with the new team, Nazr won the NBA Championship, and helped his team with 6.2 points, and 5.2 rebounds per game. After the Spurs, Mohammed spent two years in Detroit, playing for the Pistons, and then four seasons for the Charlotte Hornets, and from 2010 until 2012 he played for the Oklahoma City Thunders, after which Nazr joined the Chicago Bulls, and played for them until 2015, then decided to retire, however, he played five more games for the Oklahoma City Thunders during 2015-2016 season.
