Marvin Williams Wiki Biography
Born Marvin Gaye Williams Jr. on the 19th June 1986 in Bremerton, Washington USA, he is a professional basketball player, who currently plays for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Previously, he played for the Atlanta Hawks (2005-2012), and Utah Jazz (2012-2014), after which he joined his current team.
Have you ever wondered how rich Marvin Williams is, as of mid- 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Williams’s net worth is as high as $18 million, an amount earned through his successful career as a basketball player, which has been active since 2005.
Marvin got his name from his father, who adopted his name from the famous Motown musician Marvin Gaye. Marvin grew up in his hometown and went to Bremerton High School where he started playing basketball, and became one of the best players in his class; in his senior year, he had 28.7 points, 15.5 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 5 assists average per game, which earned him second place on the Rivals.com list of nation’s best power forwards in 2004.
After a successful high school career, Marvin was sought by many universities, and decided to enrol at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He played only one season of college basketball in which he averaged 11.3 points with 6.6 rebounds, being used as the sixth man and was one of the main contributors from the bench. He became the NCAA Champion with the college basketball team, and earned the USBWA National Freshman of the Year award.
Following his successful season in college, Marvin decided to declare for the 2005 NBA Draft, and was selected by the Atlanta Hawks as the second pick overall. He did return to college during summer, and obtained a degree in African-American studies in 2014. Although being drafted from the second position Marvin averaged only 8.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in his rookie season, which earned him selection only to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. His numbers improved in the next two seasons, and in 2007-2008 he had his career-high in points with 14.8 on average and also averaged 5.7 rebounds per game, he also had his career-high game points score with 33 against the Seattle SuperSonics, which the Hawks lost 99:90. After his rookie contract expired, Marvin signed a new contract with the Hawks, worth $37.5 million over five years, which increased his net worth to a large degree.
Unfortunately, he never managed to justify his high draft position and lucrative contract and as a result, he was sent to the Utah Jazz in 2012 in exchange for Devin Harris. He spent two seasons in Utah without any major success, and after his five-year contract expired he became a free agent. However, Marvin was just around 10 days without a contract as he was picked up by the Charlotte Hornets on a $14 million contract over two years, increasing further his wealth. During his stay at Charlotte, Marvin had several notable performances, including a near triple double against the Washington Wizards in 2015, when he scored 26 points, made 10 assists and caught nine rebounds. He re-signed with the Hornets in 2016 on a four-year contract worth $54.5 million, which also contributed to his wealth.
Regarding his personal life, little is known about Marvin’s personal life as he tends to keep his most intimate details hidden from the public.
