Mark Cavendish Wiki Biography

Mark Simon Cavendish was born on 21 May 1985, in Douglas, Isle of Man, of British descent, and is a professional road racing cyclist, best known for his work with the UCI ProTeam, Team Dimension Data. He specializes in Madison, points races, and scratch race disciplines in track, but has more than 30 Tour de France stage wins on the road, among other achievements. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Mark Cavendish? As of mid-2017, sources inform us of a net worth that is at $10 million, mostly earned through a successful career as a professional cyclist, and as he continues his career it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.

Mark began riding BMX at an early age, and started racing at the National Sports Centre in Douglas. After completing his studies, he worked in a bank for two years, earning enough money to help him start a professional cycling career. In 2003, he joined the Island Games and would win two gold medals. Two years later he joined the 2005 track world championships in Los Angeles, winning gold in the Madison, his first world title of many. He followed it up with a win in the 2005 European championship points race.

Cavendish turned professional in the same year, and joined the Continental team, Team Sparkasse. He won two stages in the Tour de Berlin and would then win gold at the Commonwealth Games in which he rode for the Isle of Man. In the Tour of Britain, he finished in second place three times. He was given a full professional contract in 2007 and it increased his net worth significantly. He got his breakthrough winning the 2007 Scheldeprijs, and won stages at the Four Days of Dunkirk and he would also get a total of 10 stage wins in his debut season, just behind Alessandro Petacchi’s record.

In 2008, he returned to the track for the world championships and would win the gold medal alongside Bradley Wiggins. He then won his first stages of a Grand Tour leading to another successful season; he had a total of 11 race wins, including three at the Tour of Ireland. The following year, he began racing at the Tour of Qatar and would win two stages. He also won his first points classification at the Tour of California. He then got a two-stage victory at the Three Days of De Panne, also winning the points classification. He continued to have a significant run, winning six stages of the Tour de France, a record for Tour de France stage wins by a British rider. He followed this up with a win at the Sparkassen Giro Bochum.

Mark then delayed his 2010 season start due to a dental problem. He had problems when he started the season, but eventually found form at the Volta a Catalunya.

Having only a few wins in the season, he entered the Tour de France, winning five more stages, bringing a career total of fifteen stage wins. He continued to record consistent performances in the next few years despite struggling with slow starts and illnesses. In 2013, he signed a contract with Belgian team Omega Pharma-Quick-Step which increased his net worth further. He won the national road race championship in the same year, but had a mostly quiet 2014. He had a very successful 2015 and then signed with Team Dimension Data for the 2016 season, getting his 30th stage win in the Tour de France. One of his latest projects is the opening stage of the World Tour Abu Dhabi Tour.

For his personal life, it is known that Cavendish married former glamour model Peta Todd in 2013. They have two children and he has a stepson. He has three homes, one on the Isle of Man, another in Essex, and one in Tuscany.
