Mark Anthony McDermott Wiki Biography
Mark Anthony McDermott, born on the 26th October 1961, in Waterbury, Connecticut, is an American actor, who became famous for his roles in the movie “In the Line of Fire” and television series “The Practice”.
So how much is McDermott’s net worth? As of late-2017, it is estimated by authoritative sources to be $20 million, acquired from his career in acting now spanning over 30 years.
Dylan McDermott is the son of Diane and Richard; his parents had him at a very early age of 15 and 17 respectively, but at the age of 6, his parents divorced and he and his sister lived with their mother. Unfortunately, later that year their mother was killed by her boyfriend, an incident which scarred McDermott and led to unfortunate years as a teen until he discovered acting.
After graduating from Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, McDermott helped his father with his bars in New York. When his father married playwright Eve Ensler, Ensler adopted him and encouraged him to pursue his love of acting. He honed his skills in Fordham University and later studied under renowned teacher Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse. McDermott began acting on the stage, debuting in 1985 in “Biloxi Blues”; his performance in Neil Simon’s production was noticed by Hollywood, and doors of opportunities were opened, and he then landed a role in the movie “Hamburger Hill”, a drama about the Vietnam War.
Although some of McDermott’s early projects were not so successful – like “The Blue Iguana” and “Twister” – they still helped his wealth and maintained his presence in Hollywood. Fortunately, in 1989 he was cast in the movie “Steel Magnolias”; playing alongside Julia Roberts, which became a significant success, and boosted his career and net worth.
However, Dylan subsequently starred in a few less than successful movies, such as “Where Sleeping Dogs Lie” and “Hardware”, before in 1993 he was included in the film “In the Line of Fire” that became a runaway hit. The movie became his biggest break in Hollywood, helping his wealth tremendously. McDermott’s connection with Clint Eastwood in the movie also became helpful for his career, as it led him to meet influential people in Hollywood, one of whom was Jeffrey Kramer, who eventually helped him land a role in a new series entitled “The Practice”.
“The Practice” began airing in 1997, and immediately became a hit – McDermott played the role of Bobby Donnell, a defense lawyer and head of a law firm in Boston. His performance charmed many audiences, and was also noticed by award-giving bodies, and his performance earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series- Drama. However, due to issues in budget and production, McDermott left the show in 2003.
After “The Practice”, McDermott appeared in various television shows, including “The Grid”, “Big Shots” and “Dark Blue”, all of which helped maintain his net worth, but none surpassed the success of “The Practice”.
In 2011, McDermott bounced back when he was included in the first two series of the TV horror “American Horror Story” from 2011, then made three film appearances in 2012, in “The Campaign”, playing Tim Wattley, a campaign manager, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, as the father of main character Charlie (Logan Lerman), and in “Nobody Walks”. In 2014 he appeared in the action thriller “Olympus Has Fallen” as a treacherous Secret Service Agent who helps a group of terrorists seize control of the White House. His net worth is still rising.
In terms of McDermott’s personal life, he married actress Shiva Rose in 1995, and together they have two daughters, but the marriage ended in 2009. Today, McDermott is reportedly engaged to actress Maggie Q.
