Laura Hillenbrand was born on 15 May 1967, in Fairfax, Virginia and is best known as an American author who writes books and magazine articles.
So just how rich is Laura Hillenbrand as of late 2017? Authoritative sources estimate that Hillenbrand’s net worth is as high as $10 million, accumulated from her over a decade-long career as an author.
Although born in Fairfax, Laura grew up in Washington DC and attended Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. She began writing from an early age, and reportedly her writing caught the eye of her English teacher. She went on to enroll into Kenyon College in Ohio, however, her life changed when she developed a chronic fatigue illness. Having moved back home, her sickness became even worse. Having spoken to doctors at Division of Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, she got a clear idea on what she was dealing with.
Nevertheless, she continued writing and in 2001 published her book entitled ‘’ Seabiscuit: An American Legend’’. The book went on to become a best-seller and was positively reviewed by the critics. The book was based on her previously published essay, and was focused on a biography of a race horse of the same name, eventually being nominated for more than 20 awards and was eventually adapted into a movie in 2003; Laura won William Hill Sports Book of the Year award, and the movie received positive reviews as well, and was nominated for an Academy Award. Being a best-selling author, Hillenbrand received public acclaim and recognition – The Economist stated ‘’the research is meticulous, the writing elegant and concise, so that every page transports you back to the period’’.
Subsequently she wrote an article entitled ‘’ A Sudden Illness’’ published by ‘’The New Yorker’’ and received a National Magazine Award for the article. Laura published her second book entitled ‘’ Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption’’, focused on a biography of Louis Zamperini, a World War II hero and Olympic athlete. It ended up being adapted into a movie as well, and ‘’Unbroken’’ hit the theatres in 2014; produced and directed by Angelina Jolie, it grossed over $163 million at the box office.
