Larry Graham Wiki Biography

Larry Graham, Jr. was born on 14 August 1946, in Beaumont, Texas USA, and is a bass guitar player, best known for being part of the psychedelic soul band Sly and the Family Stone. He is also the frontman and founder of the band Graham Central Station, but all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Larry Graham? As of mid-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $3 million, mostly earned through a successful career in the music industry. Larry is credited with inventing the slapping technique which expanded the possibilities of playing the bass guitar. All of these achievements have ensured the position of his wealth.

Larry was born into a musical family, with his parents being successful musicians. In 1966, he joined the highly successful band Sly and the Family Stone, which helped increase his net worth. The band is said to have been pivotal in developing several genres, such as funk, psychedelic music, rock, and soul. They are also credited as the first major American rock band to feature multi-gender and race integration in their lineup. Larry played for the band until 1972, and would start to develop the slapping style of the bass which would eventually find popularity, apparently developed because he played in his mother’s band that lacked a drummer; it has since become an epitome of modern funk bass playing, and other artists would soon follow in the style, such as Les Claypool, Flea, Victor Wooten, and Stanley Clarke.

After his run with Sly and the Family Stone, Larry then formed Graham Central Station, which is a pun of the New York City train station Grand Central Station. They released several hits throughout the 1970s,. which would continue to build his net worth. He also worked with Betty Davis during this time, and he was part of the band to record three albums with her, receiving critical acclaim.

In the early 1980s, he recorded several solo albums, and created several hit singles on the R&B charts; one of his most popular songs during this time was “One in a Million You” which reached the ninth spot of the Billboard Hot 100. In the 1990s, he reformed Graham Central Station and they performed for several years, releasing two live albums, plus they performed in London and Japan as they toured around the world. In 1998, he recorded a solo album which was under the Graham Central Station name, entitled “GCS 2000”, a collaboration between him and Prince. He also played bass on tours with Prince from 1997 to 2000, appearing on several recorded DVDs. One of his recent projects was performing with Graham Central Station in world tours in 2010 and 2011, and performing at the 2013 Bonnaroo Music Festival.

For his personal life, it is known that Graham is married to Tina – their son is singer and songwriter Darric Graham. He is also related to rapper Aubrey Drake Graham, better known as Drake. Larry became a Jehovah’s Witness during 1975, and is credited with introducing Prince to the religion.
