Kirk Ferentz Wiki Biography

Kirk James Ferentz is an American Football coach born on 1st August 1955, in Royal Oak, Michigan, USA. He has served as the University of Iowa’s head football coach since 1999, prior to which Kirk was an assistant coach with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Raves of the NFL, and head football coach at the University of Maine.

Have you ever wondered how rich Kirk Ferentz is? According to sources it has been estimated that Kirk Ferentz’s net worth is over $16 million, accumulated through a prosperous coaching career which he started in the early ‘80s. Since he is still actively coaching, his net worth continues to increase.

Kirk played for the University of Connecticut where he was an academic all-Yankee Conference linebacker, and a football captain, during his studies. He was also a student assistant, and after graduating in 1978, he spent the next two seasons at Worcester Academy as defensive coordinator. Ferentz also worked as assistant offensive line coach at the University of Pittsburgh, for one season in 1980, then spent the following nine seasons as the offensive line coach at the University of Iowa, where eleven of his players went on to play in the NFL. In 1990, he decided to leave Iowa to coach at the University of Maine, then was named the offensive line coach of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns three years later, and moved to Baltimore with the team when they became the Ravens, all positions adding steadily to his net worth.

In late 1998 Kirk became head coach at the University of Iowa, and after a couple of poor seasons, the 2002 season proved to be fruitful for Kirk and his team as they shared the Big Ten Conference championship with Ohio State, and gained some awards. For his efforts, Ferentz was named Coach of the Year by Associated Press and Iowa received its first BCS invitation. The following season brought the Hawkeyes team a no.8 national ranking in both Coaches Poll and AP Poll. Despite several obstacles and personal problems in 2004, Kirk was named the Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year and the team once again kept their top 10 position in the national ranking a year later. Ferentz and his team continued to play strongly during the following seasons, and took part in the Outback Bowl in 2008. The Hawks became the first team from Iowa to win eight games while starting a season in 2009, and had their first BCS bowl win since 1959.

The Hawkeyes finished their following season in the highest position since 1960, placing 7th in both AP Poll and Coaches Poll. Three mediocre seasons followed, but then, in 2015, the team won the Big Ten Conference West championship for the first time in the school’s history. At the same time, Kirk was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the fourth time while coaching at Iowa.

Despite the team’s loss in the 2015 Big Ten Football Championship Game, the Hawkeyes went to the 2016 Rose Bowl, the team’s first trip to Pasadena in 25 years. Ferentz has had a winning record against all the Big Ten teams in the league before 2012 except Ohio State. He became the dean of Big Ten football coaches in 2011, as the longest tenured coach in the respective sport.

When it comes to his private life, Kirk married Mary Hart in 1974, and the couple has five children including Brian Ferentz who has served as the offensive line coach for Iowa since the 2012 season. Brian was named the offensive coordinator in January 2017. Kirk’s other son, James, was a second team All-Big Ten center and became a Super Bowl Champion in the 2015 season.
