Íker Casillas Fernández Wiki Biography
Iker Casillas Fernandez was born on the 20th May 1981, in Móstoles, Spain, and is a soccer goalkeeper who currently plays for the Portuguese side Porto. Previously, he spent 16 years with Real Madrid, recording 510 appearances, the second highest number for Real in LA Liga, behind Raul who had 550.
Have you ever wondered how rich Iker Casillas is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Casillas’ net worth is as high as $40 million, while his salary amounts to $10 million per year. Apart from lucrative contracts with the team, he has also signed multiple deals with Reebok and Adidas, which only improved his wealth.
Iker is the son of Jose Luis Casillas, who worked as a civil servant in the Ministry of Education, and his wife Maria del Carmen Fernandez Gonzales, who was a hairdresser. While he was growing up his family lived to the Basque Country for a short time, however, he has always regarded Madrid as his home. While still a child, Iker’s father gave him a football prediction ticket, which Iker forgot to post, and his father got all scores right, so the family were left without the €1.2 million prize. However, he has managed to repay them in many ways.
He first entered Real Madrid’s football field in the 1990-1991 season, as part of the youth system, and seven years later he became the youngest ever goalkeeper to make an appearance in the Champions League, part of the first team that played against the Norwegian side, Rosenborg. Also, in 2000, Iker became the youngest goalkeeper to appear in a Champions League final, turning 19 years four days before. Since then he has appeared in more than 500 games in La Liga, and 152 in European competitions, an overall number of 725 appearances until 2015, when the Real Madrid president Florentino Perez decided not to renew his contract, although fans were dissatisfied with his performance in the previous season, which secured his departure. Nevertheless, during his time at Madrid, he helped the team win five La Liga titles, 2000-2001, 2002-2003, 2006-2007, 2007-2008, and 2011-2012, two Copa del Rey trophies, and three UEFA Champions League titles, 1999-2000, 2001-2002 and 2013-2014, among other team trophies. Also, he won several individual awards, including La Liga Breakthrough Player of the Year in 2000, La Liga Best Goalkeeper in 2009 and 2012, then Best European Goalkeeper in 2010. His net worth certainly rose considerably during this period.
After Madrid he moved to Porto, signing a two year contract with an option of expanding his stay for one additional year. In his debut he saved shots in Porto’s victory over Vitória de Guimarães, 3-0 and since then he has made 63 appearances, with 16 in the UEFA Champions League, becoming the player with most appearances in the competition, with 168.
Iker has also had a respectable career at international level, making 167 appearances for Spain, winning golden medals in the UEFA European Championship in 2008 and 2012, and FIFA World Cup in 2010, as a part of golden team with Andres Iniesta, David Villa and Xavi, among other stars.
Regarding his personal life, Iker has been married to journalist Sara Carbonero since 2016. The couple has been together since 2009, and have two children together.
He is also well-known as a philanthropist, serving as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme’s Millennium Development Goals since 2011.
