Kate McKinnon Berthold Wiki Biography

Born Kathryn McKinnon Berthold on the 6th January 1984 in Sea Cliff, New York State USA, Kate is an actress, voice actress, comedian and impressionist, best known to the world for being a part of the popular TV comedy show “Saturday Night Live” since 2012. Besides that, she is also known as Dr. Jillian Holtzmann in the 2016film “Ghostbusters”.

Have you ever wondered how rich Kate McKinnon is, as of early 2018? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that McKinnon’s net worth is as high as $2 million, an amount earned through her successful career in the world of entertainment, active since 2007.

An elder child born to Laura Campbell – a parent educator – and her husband, Michael Thomas Berthold, who worked as an architect, but unfortunately passed away when Kate was 18 years old. Kate has a younger sister, Emily.

From an early age, Kate showed an interest in performing arts, starting with a piano when she was only five years old, and seven years later started playing the cello, while when she was 15 years old, Kate began self-teaching how to play the guitar. She went to North Shore High School, from which she matriculated in 2002, and then enrolled at Columbia University, from which she graduated four years later with a theater major. During her studies, Kate was much involved in comedy groups, even starting her own – Tea Party – which was mostly a musical improv comedy group. She also featured in several Varsity shows, including the “Dial D for Deadline”, and “The Sound of Muses”, among others. Furthermore, Kate joined Prangstgrup, a student comedy group which was focused on setting up college pranks.

After graduating, Kate joined the comedy show aired on Logo TV, “The Big Gay Sketch Show”, and was a cast member through the entire existence of the show, which certainly helped to build her popularity, and also increase her net worth. Then in 2008 she joined the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City as a regular performer, and in 2009 won a Logo NewNowNext Award for Best Rising Comic. The following year, Kate got her first voice role in the TV series “Robotomy”, giving her voice to several characters, including Megawatt’s Mom among others, then in 2012 appeared in the comedy film “My Best Day”, and the same year made her debut appearance in the TV comedy show “Saturday Night Live”, before in 2013 becoming a regular cast member. Since joining “SNL”, Kate has done impressions of a number of celebrities, including Susan B. Anthony, Ellen DeGeneres, Angela Merkel, Ingrid Bergman, Justin Bieber, Jodie Foster, Hillary Clinton, Kris Jenner, Lorde, Martha Stewart among many others, all which helped to increase her popularity and therefore her net worth. She has also created her own characters, some of which include Olya Povlatsky, a Russian woman making comments on current events; then Mrs. Santini, who lives in an apartment and often writes passive-aggressive notes to her neighbors; Les Dykawitz, who is a lesbian cop in ‘70s Chicago, working for the Chicago Police Department; and many others which have helped her win several awards, including two Primetime Emmy Awards in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Her work on “SNL” has helped her earn a name for herself as a comedian, but also as an actress, which has led to roles in several successful productions, including the comedy film “Balls Out” in 2014, starring next to Jake Lacy and Nikki Reed, and the fantasy comedy “Ghostbusters” (2016), starring with Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, which added a considerable amount to her net worth since the project grossed more than $225 million at the box office. She has also focused on her career as a voice actress, and had lent her voice to characters from such popular animated series as “Nature Cat” (2015-2018) and “The Magic School Bus Rides Again” (2017).

She is currently working on several films, including the romantic comedy-drama “Irreplaceable You”, and the action comedy “The Spy Who Dumped Me”, both scheduled for release late in 2018.

When it comes to her personal life, Kate is openly lesbian, and is in a relationship with actress/photographer Jackie Abott. Kate is the first openly gay cast member on “SNL”, and the third LGBTQ cast member, following Danitra Vance and Terry Sweeney.

Kate McKinnon Berthold Quotes

  • I worked as a telemarketer for an SAT-prep company. That was the worst of it, because I had to call people in post-Katrina New Orleans and offer them this very, very expensive SAT class. And I’m not even a good salesman.
  • Getting recognized on the street is fine, but I never really wanted to be famous.
  • I only come up with things when I am talking to myself, which I do constantly. The sidewalk and the subway are the best places for this. I speak at full volume and then laugh at myself if I like what I just said.
  • If you asked me to seriously kiss someone on a screen, I would be very uncomfortable. But I will lick any part of your face.
  • I was very serene, and I still am, until I start talking in another voice, then suddenly I have a lot of volume and I’m frantic. But I didn’t want to be one of those people who’s always talking in accents in real life, so I started doing sketch comedy.
  • I started watching ‘SNL’ when I was thirteen or so; those were the Molly Shannon/Ana Gasteyer/Cheri Oteri years.
  • For an impression, I just find that I can do a lot of the people I love without much research, because I’ve already watched hours and hours of them on video and it seeped into my brain while I wasn’t thinking about it.
  • [on playing “Vicky” in Balls Out (2014)] She’s extraordinarily high- maintenance and spirited in all the wrong ways, but still genuinely confident in what she believes she deserves. I wanted to inject as much sweetness or likability as possible into this insane person. You see some characters like that on reality TV and just hate them. I wanted to see if I could play someone like that and make her not hate-able – to try to understand the humanity inside that behavior.
