Karyn White Wiki Biography
Karyn Layvonne White is a singer born on 14th October 1965, in Los Angeles, California USA, whose popularity peaked in the late ‘80s and the early ‘90s. She is probably best known for her singles “Superwoman” (1988), “The Way You Love Me”(1988), “Secret Rendezvous”(1989) and “Romantic”(1991) which became the Billboard Hot 100 number one single.
Have you ever wondered how rich Karyn White is? According to sources, it has been estimated that Karyn White’s overall net worth is $4 million, as of 2017, accumulated through an intermittent career which has spanned more than 30 years. However, since she is still very active in the music industry, her net worth continues to grow.
Karyn was the eldest of five children in the family. As a child she sang in a church choir and later as a backing singer. In 1986, she sang on Jeff Lorber’s singles “Facts of Love”, “Back in Love” and “True Confessions”, but eventually signed for Warner Bros Records, and released her debut self-titled album in 1988, which contained hit singles such as “The Way You Love Me”, “Superwoman”, “Secret Rendezvous”, “Love Saw It”, and achieved platinum. At the 1989 Soul Train Music Awards, she was nominated in the Best R&B/Urban Contemporary New Artist category, and also for two Grammy Awards. White continued to dominate the top charts and became the first ever female artist whose first three solo releases managed to hit no.1 on the R&B charts. In 1991, Karyn released her second album named “Ritual of Love”, which featured songs produced by Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam, but also included the hit single “Romantic” which reached no. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Several other singles from this album achieved notable success, including “The Way I Feel About You”, “Do Unto Me” and “Walkin’ the Dog”. Three years later, her third album, “Make Him Do Right” was released, but did not sell as well as the previous one. However, White did manage to reach the charts with singles such as “Hungah” and “Can I Stay With You” which was written by Babyface. The latter became her last single to hit the U.S. R&B Top 10 chart.
By the end of the ‘90s, Karyn had decided to leave the Warner Bros. Records and the public life, in order to start a family. However, some years later she decided to record a new album called “Sista, Sista”, which wasn’t actually released, but two tracks – “Disconnected” and “All I Do” – showed up on the “best of” compilation album – “Superwoman: The Best of Karyn White” in 2007.
After a seventeen-year break, White finally released her new album, “Carpe Diem” in March 2012.
For a complete change, Karyn now lives in Rocklin, California, and runs an apparently successful interior design and real estate business.
When it comes to her private life, Karyn was married to Terry Lewis from 1991-99 and they have a daughter and adopted a son. White was later married producer Bobby G from 2007-09.
