Have you ever wondered how rich Jozy Altidore is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Altidore’s net worth is as high as $8 million, an amount earned through his successful career as a pro soccer player. In addition to playing soccer and having an annual salary of $2.2 million, Altidore also has sponsorship deals which have improved his wealth too.
Jozy Altidore was the youngest of four children in a Haitian-American family, and grew up in Boca Raton, Florida. He started playing soccer when he was a boy, and spent some time with Boca Raton Juniors Soccer Club, Sunrise S.C, and Schulz Academy before being selected as the 17th pick overall by the New York Metrostars in the 2006 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft.
In the meantime, Jozy finished his high school in Florida, before making his pro debut on 23 August 2006, when he came off the bench against D.C. United in the US Open Cup. The following month, Altidore scored his first goal with a 28-yard shot against Columbus Crew in a 1-0 win, and a week later scored again in the 3-4 loss to D.C. United, but then scored against D.C. in the Major League Soccer playoffs, becoming the youngest player to do so at 16 years, 337 days.
In June 2008, the Spanish side Villarreal bought him for roughly $10 million, which made him the most expensive MLS player in the history. He debuted on 14 September 2008, coming on in the second half against Deportivo La Coruna, and became the first American to score in La Liga when he netted a goal against Athletic Bilbao on November 1, 2008. However, Altidore didn’t have the best time at Villarreal, who sent him on loans to Xerez, Hull City, and Bursaspor, before he signed a contract with the Dutch team, AZ Alkmaar, significantly contributing to his net worth.
On the opening day of the season in August 2011, Jozy debuted as a second half substitute and scored his first goals for the new club in a 3-1 win over PSV Eindhoven. At the end of the season, Altidore had 22 goals in all competitions and finished as seventh in the Eredivisie top scorer’s table. In the 2012-13 season, Jozy helped his team to win their first Dutch Cup title in 31 years by scoring a winner against PSV, and ended the season with 23 goals in Eredivisie, and eight goals in the KNVB Cup, becoming the first American to enter De Telegraaf’s “Team of the Season”.
In July 2013, Altidore moved to Sunderland for $13 million on a four-year contract, and scored his first goal for the club as a substitute in a 4-2 League Cup victory over MK Dons. Later, in December, he bagged his first league goal in a 3-4 defeat to Chelsea, but he finished the season with only two goals in 37 appearances. After scoring only three goals in 52 games and one league goal in 42 matches, Altidore left Sunderland to join Toronto F.C., in an exchange deal for Jermain Defoe. He formed a great attacking partnership with the Italian Sebastian Giovinco, and has scored 23 league goals in 48 appearances so far.
Altidore debuted for the US national team on 17 November 2007, against South Korea in a friendly match and scored his first goal in February 2008 against Mexico in a friendly. He represented his country in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and 2014 FIFA World Cup, and has 37 goals in 99 games in total.
Regarding his personal life, Jozy Altidore’s private life remains just that, as marital status and the number of children are unknown as he successfully manages to keep them out of the public eye.
