Joseph Henry Burnett III Wiki Biography

Joseph Henry Burnett III was born on 14 January 1948, and is a songwriter, musician and record producer, known for producing many popular artists, including Counting Crows, Elvis Costello, Roy Orbison, and Los Lobos. He also helped in songwriting and the creation of soundtracks of various films as well as television shows. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is T Bone Burnett? As of mid-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $16 million, mostly earned through a successful career in music – he’s won Grammy Awards as well as Academy Awards for his work in films. All of these achievements have ensured the position of his wealth.

Burnett attended R. L. Paschal High School, and played rhythm guitar in a band named the Shadows. One of his first appearances was on “The Unwritten Works of Geoffrey, Etc.” in which he worked under various pseudonyms. In 1972, he moved to Los Angeles and recorded the album “The B-52 Band and the Fabulous Skylarks”. Three year later he would tour with Bob Dylan and the Rolling Thunder Revue, and when the tour ended, he along with other band members formed The Alpha Band, which would go on to release three albums.

After the end of the Alpha Band, T Bone released a solo album. “Truth Decay” and would tour to support the album, opening for The Who, and would then create the album “Proof Through the Night” in 1983. In 198, he recorded “The Talking Animals”, and five years later released “The Criminal Under My Own Hat”. His albums received critical acclaim but didn’t sell hugely.

Around the end of his solo recording career, he started producing albums for various artists such as Los Lobos and Counting Crows. He collaborated with Elvis Costello, helping to produce numerous hit songs and albums. He created songs for Sam Shepard too, and would work in production for the next two decades. In 2006, he announced a concert tour around the time he produced for jazz singer Cassandra Wilson. He also ventured into film and television work, making music for “All the King’s Men” as well as “Grey’s Anatomy”, earning nominations for two Grammy Awards for his work on “Walk the Line”. A few of his next projects would include producing for John Mellencamp, and in 2009 albums for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, as well as for Gregg Allman. One of his latest works is producing an album by the Punch Brothers.

Other projects in film that he contributed in include the Coen brothers’ “Inside Llewyn Davis”, and collaborating for the music of the film “Crazy Heart” which would win several awards.

For his personal life, it is known that Burnett married singer and songwriter Sam Phillips in 1989, and he helped produce many of her albums, however, they divorced in 2004 after having a daughter. He has been married to writer Callie Khouri since 2006, and they have two daughters.

  2. Producer of neo-traditionalist country, rock, and pop music

Joseph Henry Burnett III Quotes

  • I don’t think most of the music they play in Nashville is country music at all. It got taken over by rock and lost its rhythm and character. This is real country music, the way Led Zeppelin played country.
  • People confuse Led Zeppelin with what came after them, as if they were a heavy metal band. But the incantations that Robert Plant was singing were drawn from the Delta and the Appalachian mountains. It was music of the mud and earth. They had many gears they could go up, but at its essence was something raw and true and authentic.
  • It’s a funny thing about humility as soon as you know you’re being humble, you’re no longer humble.

Joseph Henry Burnett III Important Facts

  • Burnett’s nickname was the basis of a subplot in an episode of Seinfeld (1989) [“The Maid”, Episode 19, in the final season, 1998] in which George expresses the desire to be known around the office as “T Bone.”.
  • Was a member of Bob Dylan’s “Rolling Thunder Review” in 1975.
  • Winner of the Grammy for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical at the 44th Annual Grammy Awards (27 February 2002). He won for the O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) soundtrack, its companion album “Down from the Mountain”, and wife Sam Phillips’s album “Fan Dance”.
  • Has a daughter, Simone, born in the late 1990s, with ex-wife Sam Phillips. Also has children from a previous marriage.
