Johnny Gill Jr. Wiki Biography

Born on 22 May 1966, in Washington D.C., USA, the son of a church minister, Johnny Gill Jr. is an American R&B and pop singer, and also an actor and a song-writer, and these activities have all contributed significant sums to Johnny Gill’s wealth.

So just how rich is Johnny Gill? Sources estimate that Johnny’s net worth is currently $10 million, accumulated through his success in various music-related activities.

Unsurprisingly, Johnny Gill started singing at the age of five in a family gospel group called “Little Johnny and Wings Faith” which included his brothers Bobby, Jeff, and Randy Gill (himself a solo recording artist and member of the group II D Extreme). Gill attended Sousa Junior High, and Duke Ellington School of the Arts, and apparently intended to study electrical engineering at college, but decided instead to focus on his singing career.

Johnny is known as a former member of such music bands as New Edition, LSG, and as a current member of Heads of State along with former New Edition members Bobby Brown and Ralph Tresvant. Johnny Gill’s net worth started growing when he was 17 years old. Stacy Lattisaw, another American R&B and gospel singer, was of service in Gill`s early career in singing, as Stacy was the one to convince Johnny to start recording. Under the help of Atlantic Records, Gill`s first album was released on which Johnny played guitar, drums, and bass, as well as singing lead and background vocal. This was very successful, and started the growth of Johnny’s net worth.

Johnny Gill singing progressed well, and he released a self-titled  album in 1983, and a second album in 1985. He then joined one of the original boy bands, New Edition in 1987,  replacing the lead singer Ralph Tresvant. One year later, the band released their album “Heart Break”. Along with Johnny Gill, the band became notable for such hits as “Can You Stand the Rain”, “If It Isn`t Love”, and “N.E. Heartbreak”. Becoming a member of this R&B band eventually enlarged Johnny’s net worth considerably.

As a solo singer Johnny Gill  released a second self-titled album in 1990, and it spawned such hits as “My, My, My”, and “Wrap My Body Tight” among others. Being successful in his solo career, Johnny Gill made his net worth larger when he released more solo albums, including, “Provocative” (1993) and “Let`s Get the Mood Right” (1995). The latter includes one of Gill`s best vocal performances of his career – the song “Maybe”.

In 1996, Johnny joined New Edition once again, and their album “Home Again” was released. Although Gill kept on increasing his net worth by singing, Johnny did not linger over the success of New Edition though. In 1997, LSG was founded. The acronym LSG here stands for the group members, i.e., Gerald Levert, Keith Sweat and, of course, Johnny Gill. Their first album named “Levert.Sweat.Gill” sold a lot of copies. Their second album was released in 2003.

In 2011 Johnny Gill came back to his solo career, releasing his last solo album – “Still Winning”. In all, Johnny has released six albums as a solo singer. In addition to already mentioned hits, other popular songs of his singing career are such as “Bay It`s You” (1984), “Rub You the Right Way” (1990), “Silent Prayer” (1992), ”Give Love on Christmas Day” (1998).

Johnny Gill’s net worth has been enlarged through his acting career, too, appearing in over 80 films and TV series. He is known for performances in the American sitcom “Family Matters”, aired on ABC and CBS, and in the 2006 comedy-drama “Madea`s Family Reunion”, directed by Tyler Perry.

In his personal life, Johnny Gill was formerly married to singer Whitney Houston, and has a son Isiah Gill. He is currently dating TV host Sherri Shepherd.
