He’s been active in the industry since the 1980s, and all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is John Wesley Shipp? As of mid-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $2 million, mostly earned through a successful career in acting. As he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.

Shipp’s father was a pastor of a small church outside of Wake Forest, North Carolina. John attended Butler High School, and after matriculating went on to Indiana University. In 1980, he started to pursue an acting career after joining the daytime soap opera “Guiding Light”, playing the role of Dr. Kelly Nelson for four years, and would afterwards join “As the World Turns” in 1985 playing Douglas Cummings, which performance would earn him his first Daytime Emmy Award. More opportunities started opening up for John and his net worth started to increase as well, as he was also part of “Santa Barbara”, “One Life to Live” and “All My Children’.

In 1990, Shipp then took the role of The Flash in the CBS series of the same name. His next major project would be a recurring role in the series “Sisters” four years later, but he was also working on stage, appearing in a production of “The Killing of Michael Malloy”. In 1998, he was cast as the father of the lead character Dawson in the series “Dawson’s Creek”, being a part of the show for four seasons, and going on to take more television and film projects, building his net worth. In 2010, he returned to daytime soap operas, in the villainous role in “One Life to Live” playing Eddie Ford, before making a guest appearance in the series “Drop Dead Diva” the following year. He was also part of three episodes of “Teen Wolf”, and then starred in the independent film “Hell and Mr. Fudge”, all of which added to is net worth.

John’s next big project would be 2014’s “The Flash”, cast in the recurring role of Henry Allen, Barry Allen’s father. Starting from the second season of “The Flash”, he also played the alternate universe Flash counterpart Jay Garrick. Meantime he’s also did voice work, participating in the animated show “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” voicing the villain, Professor Eobard “Zoom” Thawne aka the Reverse-Flash. Thanks to all of these opportunities, his net worth continues to increase.

John Wesley Shipp Important Facts

  • Was able to land two Broadway roles, in the award-winning “Dancing at Lughnasa,” and as Harvey Feirstein’s love interest in “Safe Sex,” his Broadway debut.
  • His father was the Minister at Ridgecrest Baptist Church when he was attending High School in Wake Forest, NC. One night while some friends of his were visiting, gunshots were fired through the brick walls of his house. It is assumed that it was the KKK who fired the shots, because a few of those friends were African American. If you can find the old T.V. guide from around that time, John gave an interview where he talked about the incident.
  • He played Barry Allen / The Flash in The Flash (1990) and his father Henry Allen in The Flash (2014).
  • Won two consecutive daytime Emmy awards for his soap work — the first for As the World Turns (1956) and the second for Santa Barbara (1984).
  • Lived in New York City to study acting following college and earned his first daytime claim to fame playing Dr. Kelly Nelson on Guiding Light (1952) in 1980.
  • A dark and handsome 1980s soap hunk who made a bid for prime time success by embodying comic book superhero The Flash in The Flash (1990). He made a bigger impact playing Dawson Leery’s father on Dawson’s Creek (1998).
