How much is the net worth of John Stossel? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that the overall size of his wealth is as much as $4 million, as of the data presented in the middle of 2016.
To begin with, Stossel grew up the child of Jewish-German immigrants in Wilmette, Illinois, attending New Trier High School in Winnetka. In 1969, he graduated with a BA in Psychology from Princeton University.
Talking about his professional career, he worked for four years as a researcher for the local NBC -Station KGW-TV in Portland, Oregon, and then eight years as editor of Consumer Affairs in New York City for the local CBS -Station WCBS-TV, for his efforts receiving the George Polk Award for Local Radio and Television. From 1981 to 2009, Stossel worked for ABC’s “20/20”, where he soon became well known. At ABC he also joined in the show “Good Morning America”, and recorded specials for ABC News from 1994. Since 2009, Stossel has been on Fox News Channel (FNC) and Fox Business Network (FBN), on which he moderated his own mission, a weekly one hour talk show simply entitled “Stossel” (2009 – present). In his own show Stossel discussed a variety of socio-political issues such as the global warming controversy, the war on drugs and free trade, as well as gave his opinion about books including Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged” and F.A. Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom”. His guests have included such celebrities as Stephen J. Dubner, Steven F. Hayward, John Francis Crowley, Christina Hoff Sommers, PJ O’Rourke, Wendy McElroy, Johan Norberg, Benjamin R. Barber and Sean Hannity. He has also landed regular guest appearances in the FNC program the “O’Reilly Factor”. All have contributed to his net worth.
Yet, it is worth mentioning the fact the Stossel has received criticism. In 1996, Stossel and four other correspondents from ABC News were sued in Maryland for making alleged illicit recordings under research; the actions were dismissed for lack of evidence. In 2000, John in his program “20/20” showed a piece of organic food claiming that ABC commissioned studies had shown that the products of conventional agriculture do not necessarily contain more pesticide residues than organic food – research by the environmental organization Environmental Working Group turned out that scientists commissioned by ABC were not right, and Stossel apologized to the viewers of “20/20”. Despite the criticism, John Stossel is still a very popular personality which allows him to increase his net worth.
Furthermore, John Stossel has released three books – “Give Me a Break. How I Exposed Hucksters, Cheats, and Scam Artists and Became the Scourge of the Liberal Media…” (2004), “Myths, Lies, and Downright Stupidity: Get Out the Shovel- Why Everything You Know is Wrong” (2006) and “No, They Can not: Why Government Fails-But Individuals Succeed” (2012). These have contributed to his net worth too.
Finally, in the personal life of the journalist, he is married to Ellen Abrams, with whom he has two children. The family resides in New York City. John describes himself as agnostic.
