John William Oates was born on 7th April 1948 in New York City, USA; he is best known to the world as a guitarist of the pop-rock duo Hall and Oates, featuring Daryl Hall, although he has an admirable solo career as well. The duo was formed in 1970, and has released countless hit singles. However, Oates had a primary role as a guitar player; however he also co-wrote some of the singles that were later widely popularized throughout the world, which resulted in induction in Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004. His career as a musician has been active since 1966.
