Jerry Lamon Falwell, Sr. Wiki Biography

Jerry Falwell was born on the 11th August 1933, in Lynchburg, Virginia USA, and was a pastor of the Baptist church and a televangelist. He founded what became a mega church named Thomas Road Baptist Church in his hometown, and was a founder of the Christian school and university entitled Liberty Christian Academy and Liberty University. In addition to this, he was a political activist, a co-founder of the political organization The Moral Majority. Jerry Falwell was active in Christian and political life from 1956 until his death in 2007.

How much was the net worth of Jerry Falwell? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that his wealth was as much as $10 million, converted to the present day.

To begin with, Jerry was raised by his parents Carey Hezekiah Falwell and Helen Falwell in Lynchburg. He wanted to become a journalist or a professional baseball player, but after the conversion he had gone through in 1952, he felt a calling to become a pastor. He followed this path working with a Bible of the Baptists group in Springfield, and then Jerry founded Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg in 1956, where he had been working as a pastor. Moreover, he launched a ministry program broadcast “The Old-Time Gospel Hour”.

In 1971, he founded a religious school called Liberty University. In 1979, he co-founded a conservative political organization The Moral Majority, which fairly quickly attracted up to 6.5 million members, Falwell contributed to the election to the USA Presidents Ronald Reagan and later George W. Bush. From 1995 to 2006, he had a column in a monthly magazine The National Liberty Journal.

However, it should be noted that Jerry Falwell raised many controversies, arguing against such issues as abortion, black people, homosexuals and Muslims. He has claimed that God had punished the USA through the attack of the 11th September, 2011 on the World Trade Center, because of gays and abortions. Jerry Falwell was in the centre of legal battles against the pornographic newspaper publisher Larry Flynt, gay rights activist Jerry Sloan, and the owner of particular domain Christopher Lamparello.

However, aside from these controversies Jerry Falwell was also recognized for having promoted religious beliefs and gathering the Catholics and Protestants; Falwell claimed to be inspired by Pope John Paul II. Additionally, he published many religious books including “Church Aflame” (1971), “When it Hurts Too Much to Cry” (1984), “The Fundamentalist Phenomenon/the Conservative Resurgence or Christianity” (1986), “Fasting Can Change Your Life” (1998), “Dynamic Faith Journal” (2006) and others. These and all other activities contributed to his net worth.

Finally, in the personal life of Jerry Falwell, he married Macel Pate in 1958, and they lived in wedlock until his death. They have three children: the current president of Liberty University Jerry Falwell, Jr., the senior pastor at the Thomas Road Baptist Church Jonathan Falwell and Jeannie Falwell. Jerry Falwell died unexpectedly at the age of 73 in May 2007 still in his hometown, because of some problems with his heart, probably caused by an abnormal heart rhythm.
