Jayson Williams was born on 22 February 1968, in Ritter, South Carolina USA, of African-American, Polish, and Italian descent. Jayson is a former professional basketball player, best known for playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for teams such as the New Jersey Nets and Philadelphia 76ers. He has also been imprisoned for aggravated assault in an accidental shooting. All of his professional endeavors have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

He signed contracts that earned him high amounts of money, and was even part of an All-Star Game. He also owned an indoor lacrosse team, and has written several books. Williams attended Christ The King Regional High School, where he played basketball, and after matriculating, attended St. John’s University where he also played basketball and then joined the 1990 NBA Draft. He was selected as the 21st pick overall by the Phoenix Suns, but was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers for a 1993 NBA first-round draft choice. He was a bench player for his first two seasons with the 76ers, and was later traded to the New Jersey Nets.

During his first three seasons with the Nets, he only started 12 games but was finally able to get a starting position during the 1996 to 1997 NBA season. The following year he had a breakthrough, and lead in rebounds and offensive rating, which led to his only All-Star game in 1998. In 1999, Jayson’s career came to a sudden end as a collision with Stephon Marbury led to a broken leg and surgery which meant that he wouldn’t be able to play again. He sat the 1999 to 2000 season out and decided to officially retire in 2000; during this time, he was in the first year of a $90 million contract. In 2005, he play a few games in the Continental Basketball Association for the Idaho Stampede.

After basketball, Williams decided to focus on other endeavors, including becoming the principal owner of the New Jersey Storm of the National Lacrosse League. He was part of the team for two seasons before moving to Anaheim, but due to poor results the team became defunct before 2006. He’s also written two books including “Loose Balls” and his autobiography “Humbled”, which was released in 2012.

In 2002, Jayson accidentally shot limousine driver Costas Christofi who was driving their charity team. Williams was playing with a shotgun and the weapon accidentally fired and killed the driver. He was acquitted of more serious charges, but eventually pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, and was sentenced to five years in prison. He’s been in other incidents as well, including being hit with a taser for being violent and intoxicated in his hotel room. He was also in a DUI incident in 2010, when he drove his Mercedes into a tree.

For his personal life, it is known that Williams was engaged to model Cynthia Bailey but they soon ended the relationship. He married Kellie Batiste in 1999 but divorced shortly after. The following year, he married Tanya Young but they also rumoured to be divorcing as of mid-2016.
