Jay North Wiki Biography

Jay Waverly North is an actor born on August 3, 1951 in Los Angeles, California. He was the only son of Jay North and Dorothy North. He started his prolific career at only six years, becoming a household name in the 1960s thanks to his role in the comedy series, ‘Dennis the Menace,’ and the children’s’ program, ‘Carton Express’. He also appeared in several commercials such as ‘Kellogs Cereals,’ ‘Best Foods Mayonnaise,’ ‘Bosco Chocolate Milk’ and ‘Skippy Peanut Butter’.

Have you ever wondered what the net worth of Jay North is, as of early-2016? According to credible sources, his net worth is estimated at a decent $500,000. He acquired most of this wealth from his acting career, especially in 1961 and 1962, when he was being paid $2,500 and $3,500 per episode respectively for his role in ‘Dennis the Menace.’ His mother invested this money in real estate so that she could secure her son’s future. Jay also earned a lot of money for his role in films such as ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star’.

North’s parents had a stormy marriage because his father, Jay North II, was an alcoholic. When he was only four years old, his parents separated, and his mother went to work for the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists as a secretary. She used her connections to see that his son appeared on Carton Express, his favorite children’s show hosted by Engineer Bill.

North loved watching television, and therefore took this opportunity to prove his skills and talent. When he appeared at the show, he caught the attention of Hazel MacMillan, a well-known Hollywood talent agent at that time. Hazel was impressed with the photogenic looks of North and later contacted his mother, offering to represent her son in the acting world. His first professional job as an actor was an appearance on ‘Queen of the Day,’ a love game show hosted by the famous Jack Bailey. He continued landing small roles on several popular NBC shows such as ‘Eddie Fisher’ and ‘George Goble,’ before auditioning for ‘Dennis the Menace,’ which would later make him a star.

As a teenager, North was enrolled in prep school as a part time student so that he would continue with his acting career. It was not easy for him as he had to struggle keeping up with school work. During his school years, he continued to audition, and was lucky enough to land a role in one of the episodes of ‘Wagon Train’ in 1964. In 1965, he was lucky again and earned a role in ‘Zebra in the Kitchen,’ an MGM comedy film. Over the next years, he continued appearing in various TV shows such as ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’ and ‘Maya,’ a film that made him a teen idol, and all added to his net worth.

As an adult, North turned from actual acting to voice acting for animated TV series immediately after completing ‘Maya’. He voiced Prince Turhan, a character in the film ‘Arabian Knights,’ and ‘The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm.’ In 1971, he made a crucial decision to leave Hollywood and move to Chicago, where he started performing in dinner theatre. He appeared in a number of stage productions such as ‘Butterflies Are Free’ and ‘Norman, Is That You?’ His net worth was growing steadily.

In early 1977, North decided to leave show business because he could not land any more roles in films and TV shows, and decided to join the U.S. Navy. He was assigned to USS Iwo Jima station in Norfolk, Virginia on January 16, 1977, but then opted out after a year because of the harsh treatment his superiors and shipmates accorded him for being a child star. He returned to Los Angeles, where was offered a role in the film Scout’s Honor in 1980.

While appearing in the stage production ‘Butterflies Are Free’ in January, 1972, North met Kathleen Brucher, an actress who had a 4-year-old son, and the two moved to Los Angels one year later, marrying on July 20, 1973, however, the marriage lasted less than a year and the couple divorced on October 21, 1974. On March 2, 1991, Jay North married Rositia, but the couple separated three months after a holding a colorful wedding. He met Cindy Hackney on April 14, 1992, at a party following a pediatric AIDS charity event held in Gainesville, Florida. The two tied the knot on March 3, 1993, and he moved to Florida to live with his wife and three step daughters.
