Jay Browning Wiki Biography

Jay Browning was born in 1954, in Oregon, USA, and is a logger, businessman and reality television personality, best known for being a part of the History Channel series entitled “Ax Men’. He and his business was a part of the show during its first four seasons, as one of the main cast members. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Jay Browning? As of early-2018, sources inform us of a net worth that is at $900,000, mostly earned through success in the logging industry as well as from television appearances. He’s been working in the logging industry since 1971, and as he continues his endeavors, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.

Jay started working in the logging industry at a young age, joining Pete McCoy Logging in 1971 for a year. He then moved to Alaska to work in logging camps for the next two years, but would eventually return to Pete McCoy Logging, working on rigging. In 1978, he started working for Howard Johnson, and the two would later form a partnership entitled Coast Logging. During this time he also worked for Crown Zellerbach for three years, before in 1984 moving to Mt. St. Helens to work for Burlington Northern, where after a year he decided to form his own logging company called JM Browning Logging Inc. They started with their headquarters in Clatsop County which focuses on logging production while minimising the environmental impact. Jay developed his business well, and his net worth would soon increase significantly.

Jay was eventually approached by the producers of the show entitled “Ax Men”, and the series started airing on the History Channel in 2008,  following the work of several logging crews located in various parts of the US, including Louisiana, Florida, Montana, Oregon and Washington State. It highlights the dangers encountered by loggers, and is produced by Original Productions, which was also responsible for similar shows such as “Ice Road Truckers” and “Deadliest Catch”, and started as part of the television trend called “real-men-in-danger”. Around the time Browning joined the show, he was already a 34 year veteran. He wears a prosthetic on his left arm as his left hand was torn off in a logging accident years ago, and designed in such a way that it allows him to use various equipment, including a chainsaw. He operates with a philosophy of working with the best in the business as well as using the best equipment. The show would find high levels of popularity, and would increase his net worth significantly, especially as “Ax Men” would find its way to air internationally too, appearing on television in countries such as Canada, India, Germany, France, Spain and Lithuania. However, Browning would end his run with the show after the fourth season.

“Ax Men” has been criticized, mainly against logging in general, with its possible effects on the environment if not regulated; such criticisms even prompted Jay to speak against how loggers were being mistreated by the regular public. He mentions that reality shows are over-dramatized and that the logging industry also takes into account their responsibility to maintain the environment. According to a report, a lot of critics don’t actually know much about the industry, or haven’t even seen a forest. He also mentioned that he left the show due to how tiring it was to also work for the camera crew while logging.

For his personal life, it is known that Browning is married and he has two sons, who were also featured on “Ax Men”; one of his sons is set to take over his company. His granddaughter was killed by the family rottweiler in 2010. The family continue to live in the wilds of Washington State.
