Jason Andrew Varitek Wiki Biography
Jason Varitek was born on 11 April 1972, in Rochester, Michigan USA, and is a former American baseball player who played in the position of catcher. Varitek is best known as one of just three players to have participated in the Little League World Series, College World Series and Major League World Series, and one of few to spend his entire MLB career with one team.
So just how rich is Jason Varitek as of mid-2017? Authoritative sources report that Varitek’s wealth is as high as $30 million. His net worth is accumulated from his 14 year-long career on the baseball diamond.
Jason attended Lake Brantley High School where he played in the positions of catcher and third baseman, receiving many awards for his skills on the field. Despite the possibility of pursuing a baseball career, he decided to enroll into college and postpone his professional career. Jason attended Georgia Tech where he played baseball and was on the Yellow Jackets baseball team, participating in the Olympics in 1992. The college eventually went on to compete in the College World Series in 1994, with Varitek’s skills acknowledged. Having graduated from college, he decided to take his career on a higher level and signed a contract with an agent who would eventually help him find a team he could play for. Jason ended up being recruited by the St. Paul Saints, a ploy to get a better deal from the MLB team the Seattle Mariners in 1995, but was eventually traded to the Boston Red Sox in 1997 without playing a senior game. In the forthcoming period, he showed the fans and baseball experts that his skills were up to scratch. However, the 2000 season was unsuccessful for both Varitek and his team and the results were slowly dropping resulting in the Red Sox not being able to qualify for the post-season play-offs.
During this period of time, he signed a contract extension with Boston, but after the failed season, he returned to form and achieved above average results. However, shortly after that success, he broke an elbow, and wasn’t able to play until he was fully recovered, not returning to the Red Sox until the following year. Nonetheless, the upcoming period in his career was remarkably successful, and he went on to sign another four year contract with the Red Sox. Varitek followed his previous success in the same fashion throughout the 2000s and eventually became the captain of the Red Sox, remaining on that position until his retirement. The highlight of that era in Jason’s career was 2007 in which he achieved his 1000th hit and leading his team to World Series victory. Shortly after announcing his retirement in 2011, he was named a special assistant and consultant in the Red Sox organizations, going on to work with pitchers and catchers.
In his personal life, Varitek has been married twice. He has three daughters with his first wife, Karen Mullinax (1996-2008). He married Catherine Panagiotopoulos in 2011, and the couple has one child, born in 2012. Varitek is reputed to be living a Christian oriented life.
