Hillary Clinton Wiki Biography
Hillary Diane Rodham was born on 26 October 1947, in Chicago, Illinois USA, of English and Welsh (father), plus Scottish, Dutch and French-Canadian (mother) descent. As Hillary Clinton she is a politician, now best known for being the defeated Democratic Party’s nominee who contested the 2016 Presidential Election. However, she is also a former US Secretary of State, a position in the federal government primarily focused on foreign affairs, which she held from 2009 until 2013 under President Barack Obama; the wife of a politician, namely former US President Bill Clinton, and so was the First Lady of the United States from 1993 until 2001; and then she became a US Senator representing New York State from 2001 until 2009.
So just how rich is Hillary Clinton, as of late 2016? Authoritative sources have estimated that Hillary has a net worth of over $60 million, accumulated from her official salaries, public speaking engagements, and books and memoirs published. With husband Bill, their combined net worth is estimated at over $260 million.
Hillary Clinton was educated at Maine East High School, and then transferred to Maine West High School during her senior year from where she matriculated. Even in high school, Clinton showcased an interest in politics and at one point even campaigned for Republican Barry Goldwater, who took part in the presidential election in 1964, partly encouraged by her Methodist and anti-communist up-bringing. A year later, Clinton began her studies at Wellesley College, somewhat more liberal in outlook, from which she graduated with a degree in political science. Both in college, and later in Yale Law School where she met Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton actively partook in politics. In 1975, she married Bill Clinton and moved out to Arkansas, where she established the “Arkansas Advocates for Children and Family” non-profit organization, and had a hands-on approach on various political matters. When Bill Clinton became the Governor of Arkansas in 1978, Hillary Clinton became the First Lady of Arkansas.
Hillary was always active in law, in various jobs taking on cases ranging from patent infringement to child advocacy – a particular personal continuing interest. She often refers to following her heart, not her head, in both personal and professional matters, and in the latter became a political liberal, championing civil and women’s rights. She was particularly effective, and learned the ways of political persuasion, while in Arkansas, which was to hold her in good stead in her future positions.
Except for the years 1981-83, her husband served as Governor from 1978-92, and then as US President from 1993-2001 – Hillary was the first First Lady to hold a post-graduate qualification – during which periods she was vocally proud of not being a ‘stay at home’ wife, even insisting on her name being officially Hillary Rodham Clinton. He president husband used her on National Health Care Reform task force, children’s health insurance program, and Welfare Reform Act, among other policy programs.
After this period, it was Hillary’s turn, and she was elected as Senator for New York State in 2001. Hillary had a hand in several crucial decisions that affected the whole country. When the United States suffered the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York, Clinton actively supported the subsequent military action in Afghanistan, often referred to as “The War in Afghanistan”, which started in 2001 and continued until recently. During the Iraq War, Clinton travelled to Afghanistan in order to meet up with American troops. Even though Clinton was a strong supporter of the military action on Afghanistan, during her second term as a Senator she was opposed to the “Iraq War troop surge” suggested by then president George W. Bush, which would increase the number of American troops in Iraq.
When Clinton finished her term in the Senate, she decided to pursue a presidential campaign in 2008, which she lost to Barrack Obama who was then elected to be the President of the United States. A year later, Obama put up Clinton as a nominee for the position of the Secretary of State, which she was appointed to in 2009, serving until 2013, after which she began preparing for the aforementioned presidential campaign, officially beginning in 2015, and the result of which was ultimate failure.
Even though Hillary Clinton is best known as a politician, she has also established herself as a writer. She published her first book entitled “It Takes A Village: And Other Lessons Children Teach Us” in 1996, and the following year received a Grammy Award for the audio version of the book. As intimated earlier, she also embarked on a public speaking circuit, being paid well for her efforts such that it helped her net worth to grow substantially, to where it is today.
Hillary and Bill have a daughter, Chelsea, and together they established the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation in 2013, focusing partly on early childhood development but also the promotion of women’s rights among other causes. One suspects that her attention may well return to such civil causes now she seems to be out of public life.

Hillary Clinton Quotes
- [After Donald Trump insisted she be drug-tested before the final 2016 presidential debate] I am so flattered that Donald thought I used some sort of performance-enhancer! Now actually, I did, it’s called preparation.
- It is unsavory, and it has always been that way, but we usually end up where we need to be. But if everybody’s watching, you know, all the back room discussions and the deals, you know, people get a little nervous, to say the least. So you need both a public and a private position,
- My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open markets and open borders.
- [on Donald Trump] I’ll leave it to the psychiatrists to explain his affection for tyrants.
- [on Donald Trump] He says he has foreign policy experience because he ran the Miss Universe pageant in Russia.
- [on her presumptive win to head the Democrat ticket in the 2016 election] Barriers can come down. Justice and equality can win. This campaign is making sure there are no ceilings, no limits on any of us. This is our moment to come together.
- I know what it’s like to be knocked down and how you dust yourself off and you get back up and you keep fighting for what you believe in. But you do it within the process ..so that you can point to our political system working.
- [in a primary campaign speech, February 2016] I don’t think President Obama gets the credit he deserves for digging us out of the ditch the Republicans put us in.
- [on the popularity of Donald Trump] A lot of people are understandably reacting out of fear and anxiety. Mr. Trump has a great capacity to use bluster and bigotry to inflame people and to make them think there are easy answers to very complex questions.
- The current rules for our economy reward some work – like financial trading – much more than other work, like actually building and selling things.
- Study after study has documented that when women have the opportunity to start businesses , own land, and receive credit, entire economies expand.
- [advice to Yale graduates, at Commencement 2001] The most important thing I have to say to you today is that hair matters. Pay attention to your hair, because everyone else will.
- I think the world is so complicated, the fewer corners that you can have, the better.
- [ducking a shoe at a recycling convention] My goodness, I didn’t realize solid-waste management was so controversial.
- Anyone who says that racial discrimination is not a problem in American elections must not be paying attention.
- [on the murder of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya] He risked his life to stop a tyrant, then gave his life trying to help build a better Libya. The world needs more Chris Stevenses.

- In the middle of the next crises, I’m cutting my hair. Believe me, we won’t be reading about what war is going on.
- [on 10 August 2009, on being asked by an African student about President Bill Clinton’s thoughts on Chinese economic policy] Wait. You want me to tell you what my husband thinks? My husband is not the Secretary of State — I am. So you ask my opinion, I will tell you my opinion. I’m not going to be channeling my husband.
- If Hollywood and Bollywood were how we all lived our lives, that would surprise me. And yet it’s often the way our cultures are conveyed, isn’t it? People watching a Bollywood movie in some other part of Asia think everybody in India is beautiful and they have dramatic lives and happy endings. And if you were to watch American TV and our movies you’d think that we don’t wear clothes and we spend all our time fighting with each other.
- [on personal power] Women are always being tested . . . but ultimately, each of us has to define who were are individually and then do the very best job we can to grow into that.
- [Beijing Conference 1995] Tragically, women are most often the ones whose human rights are violated. Even in the late 20th century, the rape of women continues to be used as an instrument of armed conflict. Women and children make up a large majority of the world’s refugees. When women are excluded from the political process, they become even more vulnerable to abuse. I believe that, on the eve of a new millennium, it is time to break our silence. It is time for us to say here in Beijing, and the world to hear, that it is no longer acceptable to discuss women’s rights as separate from human rights. These abuses have continued because, for too long, the history of women has been a history of silence. Even today, there are those who are trying to silence our words.
- [Washington D.C. speech, June 2008] Although we weren’t able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling this time, thanks to you, it’s got about 18 million cracks in it. And the light is shining through like never before, filling us all with the hope and the sure knowledge that the path will be a little easier next time. That has always been the history of progress in America.
- Some people think elections are a game: who’s up or who’s down. It’s about our country. It’s about our kids’ future. It’s about all of us together. Some of us put ourselves out there and do this against some difficult odds. We do it, each one of us, against difficult odds. We do it because we care about our country. Some of us are right, and some of us are not. Some of us are ready, and some of us are not. Some of us know what we will do on day one, and some of us haven’t thought that through.
- I always take time to worship God in as evangelical a way as is feasible, given time and location constraints. As you know, I consider myself an evangelical Christian, really a Christian conservative, if you want to know the truth, so it’s nice to be home again in the South, which I really consider my quote-unquote home even though I live in New York most of the time. Well, Washington D.C. most of the time, actually, but if I’m not there I’m in New York, of course, but always thinking about being here, in the South, my spiritual home.
- [July 3, 2007] I believe that presidential pardon authority is available to any president, and almost all presidents have exercised it. This [George W. Bush’s quick commutation of the sentence of convicted perjurer Lewis Libby, aka “Scooter”, former Chief of Staff of Vice President Dick Cheney] was clearly an effort to protect the White House . . . There isn’t any doubt now, what we know is that Libby was carrying out the implicit or explicit wishes of the Vice President or maybe the President as well, in the further effort to stifle dissent.
- [Interview on Today (1952), 1998] There is a story out there, for those who care to report it, and that is the vast, right-wing conspiracy that’s been conspiring against my husband since the day he announced for President.
- [speech, June 28, 2004] We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.”
