George Tawlon Manneh Oppong Ousman Weah was born on 1st October 1966, in Monrovia, Liberia and is now the president of Liberia, and a former star football (soccer) player. He played in the position of striker for 14 years in various clubs in France, Italy and England, and was named the World Player of the Year, European Footballer of the Year and African Footballer of the Year.

To begin with, Weah was born in poverty in a district of Monrovia. At the age of 15, he started playing football at Young Survivors’ youth team, before moving to other teams in his country, such as Invincible Eleven and Mighty Barrole, with whom he won some domestic trophies, including the championship and The Liberia Cup. In 2014, Weah was elected a senator in the Liberian Parliament, but in the three-year term, he only occasionally attended Senate meetings and contributed no legislative initiative. However, in 2017, he again announced his candidacy for the presidency. On 27th December 2017 he was elected President of Liberia, and sworn in on 22 January 2018.
