George Stephanopoulos Wiki Biography
George Robert Stephanopoulos, an American author, political advisor, journalist and broadcaster was born on 10 Feb 1961, in Fall River, Massachusetts USA of Greek descent through both parents. He became well known during the successful presidential campaign of Bill Clinton as communications director, later becoming an advisor in strategy and policy for the Clinton government. His politically influenced career and being a TV personality is the reason for his huge net worth.
An author, political advisor and TV host, how rich is George Stephanopoulos? Sources estimate that the net worth of George Stephanopoulos is $18 million dollars, mostly accumulated in his career as a TV host and advisor for US government spanning well over 30 years.
Stephanopoulos’ father is a priest and he also wanted to follow his father’s ideology and be a priest himself. After moving to Cleveland Ohio, Stephanopoulos attended Orange High School and during his high school years he used to do competitive wrestling. His father wanted him to become a lawyer, and Stephanopoulos promised him that he would study law, but graduated from Columbia University situated in New York with a Bachelor’s degree in political science, the best student of his class and being awarded a scholarship; he was also a broadcaster at the University’s radio station. Later he secured a Master of Arts degree in Theology from Balliol College, Oxford.
In his early career he worked for Michael Dukakis in his 1988 presidential campaign. Later he worked in the presidential campaign of Bill Clinton along with James Carville and David Wilhelm. After Bill Clinton was elected, Stephanopoulos served as press secretary, but later he was moved to the post of Senior Advisor for the matters of policy and strategic planning following his various verbal mistakes during the press conferences he held. He later resigned from his post in 1996 when Bill Clinton was re-elected. Regardless, his net worth improved considerably during this period.
In 1999 he authored “All Too Human: A Political Education”, which went on to become a New York Time’s best seller, and in the book he talked about the pressure he felt during his time as the spokesperson of Clinton’s government. Stephanopoulos even canceled a seminar in order to promote his book. After his career ended at the White House, he became a political reporter for ABC News’ program “World News Tonight”. In December 2009 he began co-hosting “Good Morning America”, and then from 2014 to the present Stephanopoulos is the chief anchor of ABC News alongside appearing on GMA. All his time in political arena and his TV anchoring is the reason for his increasing net worth.
In his personal life, Stephanopoulos married Alexandra Wentworth in 2001; she is a comedian, writer and actress, and together they have two daughters and they all live in Manhattan. His only minor misdemeanours were for driving with an expired license plate, and running from the scene of accident in 1995, but the latter case was dropped.
