A politician and an American academic, Elizabeth Ann Warren was born on 22 June 1949 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma USA. She is the senior Senator for the state of Massachusetts and a dedicated member of the Democratic Party. She is a prominent legal scholar and one of the most cited individual when it comes to the US commercial law. She is behind a number of popular academic works, and a frequent media interview subject on issues concerning personal finance and the American economy. She has written books such as ‘The Two-Income Trap: Why Middle-Class Mothers and Fathers Are Going Broke’ and ‘A Fighting Chance.’

Elizabeth Warren was born to Donald Jones Herring and Pauline Herring. She was educated at Northwest Classen High School, where she was an active member of the debate team, earning herself the title ‘Oklahoma’s Top High School Debater.’ When she was 16, she was offered a scholarship to enrol at George Washington University because of her talent in debating, but after two years she married and moved with him to Houston, Texas, where she graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology and audiology in 1979. She was hired by a public school where she taught students with disabilities, before moving to New Jersey, where she enrolled at Rutgers School of Law.
Elizabeth Warren was hired at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taff as a summer associate, before working from home as a lawyer, doing all real estate closings and writing wills. From the late 70s to 90s, she taught law throughout the country’s universities and at the same time getting involved in research related to middle-class personal finance and bankruptcy issues. She taught at University of Houston Law Center from 1978 to 1983, University of Texas School of Law from 1983-1987, University of Michigan in 1985, University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1987 as a professor, and eventually becoming Professor of Law at Harvard Law School in 1995. She was also repeatedly named as one of the most influential women by the National Law Journal. She was finally inducted into Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 2011, and named as one of the top 20 US Progressives in January 2012 by the UK New Statesman Magazine. In her personal life, Elizabeth Warren married Jim Warren, her high-school boyfriend, in 1968 and the couple had a son and daughter, but divorced in 1978. Warren moved on to marry Bruce Mann in 1980, choosing to keep her surname.
