Edwyn Charles Huang Wiki Biography

Born Edwyn Charles Huang on the 1st March 1982 in Washington, D.C. USA, he is best known to the world for his work as a chef, but he is much more than that. He is the co-owner of the Gua-Bao restaurant in Manhattan’s East Village, and is the host of the “Huang’s World”, aired on Viceland, among many other enterprises.

Have you ever wondered how rich all of these accomplishments have made Eddie Huang? According to sources, Eddie’s wealth amounts to $2.5 million, also accumulated from his work as a certified attorney, with his career beginnings traced back to the mid- 2000s when he worked as an attorney at the Chadbourne & Parke law firm.

Eddie is of Taiwanese ancestry, as his parents, Louis and Jessica Huang, are immigrants from Taiwan. They are a part of Taiwan’s waishengren community, with other families of Mainland China. Eddie spent his early childhood in the suburb of Washington DC, Silver Spring, Maryland, but after a while moved to Orlando Florida, as his dad became manager of steak and seafood restaurants, which include Cattleman’s Ranch Steakhouse and Atlantic Bay Seafood and Grill.

After finishing high school, during which he fell in love with hip-hop, and was involved in several brawls which eventually got him arrested twice, Eddie enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh and Rollins College, and graduated with a BA degree in English and Film from the latter in 2004. He then enrolled at Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University from which he obtained a J.D. degree in 2008, and during which he was a part of the Innocence Project, also President of the Minority Law Students Association, and served as well as Vice President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association. Before finishing his studies, Eddie was awarded a New York City Bar Association Minority Fellowship in 2006.

He started off his career as an attorney at the law firm Chadbourne & Parke as their summer associate, and then found a place in the Corporate Department in 2008. However, as the financial crisis was taking its toll, Eddie was effected and was left without a job, so to support himself, he worked as a stand-up comic and marijuana dealer. Also, he was a clothing designer for Hoodman Clothing from 2006 until 2009, when he began to focus entirely on a career in the food industry.

Learning from his father about management, he started his own restaurant BaoHaus in the Lower East Side section of Lower Manhattan in December 2009, while in July 2011, he found a new location for the restaurant, at 238 East 14th Street in the East Village, and with the improved location came an improved menu. Encouraged by the success of his first restaurant, Eddie opened another one, but this one wasn’t anywhere near as successful and closed following poor reviews from food critics, including from Sam Sifton, who gave the restaurant zero stars.

Eddie is also a celebrity chef, appearing in such TV shows as “Unique Eats” (2011-2012), “Snack Off” (2014), and “Huang’s World”, among others, while his memoir book “Fresh Off the Boat”, was made into a television show of the same name, which is now in its fourth season, all of which have considerably increased his net worth.

Regarding his personal life, Eddie is in a relationship with producer and director Julie Scott, best known to the world for her work on the famed TV series “Doctor Who”. He was engaged in 2013 to a girl named Dena, but their engagement fell through after Eddie spoke ill of women and received a misogyny tag to his name. He has been involved in several other controversies, mostly because of his harsh comments about various cultures.
