Damien Chazelle Wiki Biography

Damien Chazelle was born on the 19th January 1985, in Providence, Rhode Island USA, and is a Academy Award-winning filmmaker and producer, probably best known to the world as the director of such successful projects as “Whiplash”, and “La La Land”, among many other accomplishments that Damien has been credited with, so far in his career.

Have you ever wondered how rich Damien Chazelle is, as of early 2018? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Chazelle’s net worth is as high as $10 million, an amount earned through his successful career, active since 2008.

Damien, of French and Canadian ancestry, is the son of Bernard Chazelle, a respected Eugene Higgins Professor of computer science at Princeton University, and his wife Celia, who is a medieval history teacher at The College of New Jersey.

Damien went to Princeton High School where he tried to become a jazz drummer, but had little success; in constant war with his teacher, these events inspired him later to write the screenplay for the film “Whiplash”. Be that as it may, Damien enrolled at Harvard University, studying filmmaking at the Visual and Environmental Studies department. He finished his studies in 2007, while his directorial debut came in 2009, “Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench”, which he also wrote. The film received positive critiques, which encouraged him to continue his career. He had a ready script for the musical “La La Land”, and joined Hollywood in order to attract financiers for his musical. However, he had to work hard in order to reach Hollywood heights.

In 2013, Damien worked on the screenplay “Grand Piano”, directed by Eugenio Mira, a film about a pianist who suffers from stage fright. The lead roles were given to such stars as Elijah Wood, John Cusack and Kerry Bishe, while Damien also worked on the screenplay for “The Last Exorcism Part II”, with Ed Gass-Donnelly, who also directed the film. His screenplay for “Whiplash” was eventually picked up by Right of Way Films and Blumhouse Productions, but before the shooting started, Damien made a short film based on the script, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to great reviews. The film came out in October 2014 and won a number of prestigious awards, launching Damien to stardom, plus boosting his net worth.

Following the enormous success of the “Whiplash”, he found his investors for “La La Land”, and the film came out in 2016, winning him Golden Globe Awards for Best Director- Motion Picture, and Best Screenplay – Motion Picture, and an Academy Award in the category for Best Achievement in Directing, making him the youngest winner of an Oscar for Best Director, while also increasing his net worth to a large degree.

Most recently, Damien was chosen as the director for the TV mini-series “The Eddy”, and the film “First Man”, a biopic about Neil Armstrong; both projects will be released late in 2018.

Regarding his personal life, Damien has been engaged to actress Olivia Hamilton since October 2017. Back in 2010, he married producer Jasmine McGlade, but the couple divorced four years later.
