Corey James Dillon Wiki Biography

Corey Dillon is a former professional American Football player, a running back, known for playing most recently with the New England Patriots, and previously the Cincinnati Bengals. He was born on the 24th of October 1974 in Seattle, Washington USA.

How rich is Corey Dillon? As of early 2017, sources estimate his net worth at $11 million, earned over his sporting career from 1997 until 2006.

Dillon spent his childhood in Seattle, where he was raised by a single mother, Jerline. The family often struggled for money, and lived in a deprived area. Dillon had a difficult youth and was arrested several times, once for drugs offenses.

He attended Franklin High School, where he played football and baseball. Such was his baseball prowess, he was selected in the 1993 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft as an outfielder by the San Diego Padres, but decided instead to continue to pursue a career in the NFL. Dillion attended Garden City Community College in Kansas, where he was removed from the football team for bad behaviour.

He then moved to Dixie State College in Utah, and then to the University of Washington in Seattle. During this time, he was selected as JC Offensive Back of the Year by College Sports Magazine.

In 1997, Dillon was selected in the second round of the NFL draft, picked 43rd overall by the Cincinnati Bengals. His first season proved successful, as he broke the record for rookie yards run in a season, a record which stands to this day (1,129). With the Bengals, Dillon made the Pro Bowl each year between 1999-2001, however, he was released by the Bengals in 2003, after suffering an injury which affected his performance, and so moved to the New England Patriots for the 2004 season.

2004 saw the Patriots at Super Bowl XXXVIII and a victory over the Carolina Panthers (32 – 29) – Dillon was named the top rusher of the event, with 75 yards. Further injuries followed in the next couple of seasons, however, and Dillon was used increasingly in a supporting role and as a pass receiver, although in 2006 he still managed to come third in the league for the total number of yards rushed.

The Patriots released Dillon in 2007, and in October, he expressed his desire for imminent retirement. It was rumoured he might make a return to the NFL, but nothing ever materialised. When his name struck the headlines in relation to some unsavoury personal events in 2010, all hopes were quashed. His career statistics include 150 games played between 1997 and 2006, with 11,241 yards run, and 82 rushing touchdowns. He is one of a small number of people (less than 30) to belong to the 10,000 rushing yards club.

In his personal life, Dillon was married and has three children with his ex-wife, Desiree Anoine. They were divorced in April of 2010, with irreconcilable differences cited, although Dillon was arrested on suspicion of assaulting Anoine in May, but not charged with spousal abuse. This followed an arrest for drunk driving, for which he was released on $50,000 bail.
