Chetan Bhagat was born on the 22nd April 1974, in New Delhi, India, and is an award winning author, screenwriter, columnist and TV personality, best known to the world for his novels “Five Point Someone” (2004), “2 States” (2009), and “One Indian Girl” (2016), among other creations.

Cheetan is the elder child of an army officer father, and a mother who worked for the government in the agricultural department. He has a younger brother, Ketan Bhagat, who has also tried himself as a writer.
He went to the Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan in his hometown, and after matriculation enrolled at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, from which he obtained a degree in mechanical engineering in 1995. He then furthered his studies by obtaining an MBA degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad two years later.
After that, he started sending job applications to banks and funds, and was hired by Goldman Sachs as an investment banker. He worked in the Hong Kong office for nearly a decade before he was fired and returned to India. He settled in Mumbai and focused on his writing; even before he was fired by the Goldman Sachs, he wrote the “Five Point Someone”, which came out in 2004. The book sold more than a million copies, which only increased his wealth, and became extremely popular in India which resulted in a film – “3 Idiots” (2009) – based on his creation. Chetan continued with his writing, and in 2005 published another book “One Night @ the Call Center”. Like its predecessor, the book was made into the film “Hello”, released in 2008, and Chetan was credited for writing dialogues for the film. His next creation came out in 2008 “The 3 Mistakes of My Life”, and was another best seller which only increased his wealth, and also resulted in another film adaptation, “Kai po che!”, which earned him a Filmfare Award in the category Best Screenplay.
After the eponymous “The 3 Mistakes of My Life” came “2 States”, which received yet another film adaptation, also entitled “2 States”, and it came out in 2014, and grossed around $16 million at the box office, which further increased Chetan’s wealth.
Chetan has written three more books “Revolution 2020” (2011), “Half Girlfriend” (2014), which was also made into a film, and “One Indian Girl” (2014). He also works on another novel “Soulmate”, which will be published in 2018.
Aside from romantic fiction, Chetan has also published two non-fiction books “What Young India Wants” (2012), and “Making India Awesome” (2015), which comprises of his essays, speeches and other collections of his thoughts.
Also, he has a column in one of India’s most renowned magazines The Times of India, and also Hindustan Times.
Thanks to his successful career, Chetan has received several prestigious awards, including Society Young Achiever award in 2004, then Publisher’s Recognition award in 2005.
