Barry Mann Wiki Biography

Barry Mann was born as Barry Imberman on the 9th February 1939, in Brooklyn, New York City USA. He is best known to the world for being a songwriter and composer, who has written one of the most popular pop and rock’n’roll hits, with his wife, Cynthia Weil. He has written over 160 songs which have been hits in the USA and the UK. He has been an active member of the music industry since the late 1950s.

Have you ever wondered how rich is Barry Mann as of early 2016? According to authoritative sources, it is estimated that the overall size of Barry Mann’s net worth is currently over $100 million, which has been accumulated through his successful career as a songwriter and composer. During the majority of his career, Barry has collaborated with his wife. Their songs have sold over 200 million records in the whole world, which has been the main source of their fortune. Another source of their wealth is coming from their own publishing company, named Dyad Music.

Barry Mann spent his childhood in Brooklyn, where he attended elementary and high school school. When he was 11 years old, he began taking piano lessons, although in college he became a student of Architecture, but dropped out after only one year to pursue his love of music. Barry’s songwriting career began in the late 1950s when still a teenager, writing the song “She Say (Oom Dooby Doom)”, which was performed by the band The Diamonds, and which entered the top 20 in the charts. In 1960 came another hit song, entitled “Footsteps”, which was performed by singer Steve Lawrence, and which ended at 7th place on the US Pop chart. In 1961, Barry married Cynthia Weil, and ever since then, the couple has produced numerous hits which have increased Barry’s net worth, as well as Cynthia’s of course.

Their first hit written together was “Bless You”, which was sung by Tony Orlando. In 1962, the couple had a few successful songs, such as “Johnny Loves Me”, performed by Shalley Fabares, “Uptown” by The Crystals, and “Blame It on Bossa Nova” sung by Eydie Gormé – Barry’s net worth was beginning to rise.

In 1964, the couple wrote its first No 1 hit entitled “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’”, which was initially performed by The Righteous Brothers, but was later covered by various artists, such as Dionne Warwick and Hall & Oates, which certainly effected Barry’s net worth in a very positive way. The same year, the couple wrote another great song, entitled “Walking In The Rain”, performed by The Ronettes. In 1966, they again collaborated with The Righteous Brothers, who performed their second No 1 song entitled “You Are My Soul And Inspiration”, further increasing Barry’s net worth.

By the end of the 1960s, Barry and Cynthia had become a pair of the greatest songwriters, penning their names on songs such as “How Can I Tell Her It’s Over”, sung by Andy Williams, “I Just Can’t Help Believing” by Bobby Vee, and “It’s Getting Better” by The Vogues. In the 1970s, the couple continued with their great work together, increasing Barry’s net worth by a large degree; some of the songs in 1970, included “Rock And Roll Lulla” by BJ Thomas, “Here You Come Again”, sung by the same artist, and “We’re Over” performed by Johnny Rodriguez. The 1980s were no different for them, creating songs such as “Somewhere Out There”, which was sung by Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram.

The couple was inducted into the Songwriting Hall of Fame in 1987, and also received the Ahmet Ertegun award in 2010. In 2004, they opened in New York with their musical revue, entitled “They Wrote That?”, which was based on songs that they had written and their personal history. Overall, they have won over 100 awards from Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) as well. Beside that, the couple received the Johnny Mercer Award, which represents the highest honor from the Songwriters Hall Of Fame.

Regarding Barry Mann’s personal life, with Cynthia Weil he has a daughter, named Jenn Mann, who works as a psychotherapist. The couple resides in Beverly Hills, California. They have their own official website.
