Augustine Azuka Okocha Wiki Biography

Augustine Azuka Okocha was born on the 14th August 1973, in Enugu, Nigeria and is a former soccer (football) player who served as an attacking midfielder, known for his skills, technique and speed. For his form and style of play, Okocha was compared to the Brazilian star Ronaldinho Gaúcho. Jay-Jay played football professionally from 1990 to 2008.

How much is the net worth of Jay-Jay Okocha? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that the overall size of his wealth is as much as $15 million, as of the data presented in the middle of 2017. Sport is the major source of Okocha’s fortune.

To begin with, he started playing soccer on the street just like many other football stars.

Concerning his professional career, Jay-Jay Okocha started in 1990 in the small German club Borussia Neunkirchen, being signed after holidaying with his cousin playing there. After two successful years, he switched to Eintracht Frankfurt, for which he scored a legendary goal in a match against Karlsruhe in 1993, making it all the way through the entire opposing team’s defence and shooting past the national goalkeeper Oliver Kahn. In 1996, he switched to the Turkish club Fenerbahce, in which he once again proved his great technique by scoring 30 goals in 63 matches. In 1998, the player moved to the French team, Paris Saint-Germain, where he was destined to be one of the team’s top players, but when the club signed Ronaldinho in the 2001 season, Jay-Jay started going down slowly, and did not get much playing time, but he had an amazing ability to teach. Ronaldinho confirmed that many of his skills he learned from Okocha. In 2002, he was offered a move to English Premier League club Everton, but the (former) Everton coach Walther Smith was more interested in taking Frenchman David Ginola. So Jay Jay ended up at Bolton, where e played 124 matches before trying something new in 2006, which led to a remarkable transfer to the Qatari team Qatar SC. However, only a year after the change, he decided to get back to England, where he ended up in the small club Hull City. At the start of the 2007/2008 season he announced that he would retire when the season was over.

Talking about his international career, Okocha played in the World Cup for Nigeria in 1994, 1998 and 2002, as well as in several African Nations Cup tournaments. He was also one of Nigeria’s football team members which won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He retired from playing for Nigeria in 2006, after having played 75 international matches and scoring 14 goals.

In addition, Jay Jay’s endorsements include appearing in advertisements for Pepsi, Samsung, V-Mobile and B-29 (Nigeria washing powder soap). Okocha has also released a DVD entitled “Transcendental Intelligence with Jay-Jay” (2004), in which he teaches children difficult personal tricks. He also owns a bar in Victoria Island, Lagos called “Number 10”.

Finally, in the personal life of the former football player, Jay-Jay married Nkechi Okocha in 1997, and they have a son and a daughter.
