Archie Manning Wiki Biography
Elisha Archibald “Archie“ Manning was born on 19 May 1949, in Drew, Mississippi USA, and is famous as a former American football player, primarily with the New Orleans Saints, and for having two sons who are now famous players in the NFL.
So just how rich is former NFL player Archie Manning? Sources have estimated that Archie‘s net worth is $10 million, the vast majority of his wealth accumulated during his footbal career; other sources of income include commentating and analyzing football games for television broadcasts.
His parents, Jane Elizabeth and Elisha Archibald Manning Jr., were interested in Archie‘s sports activities, which were many. Manning went to Drew High School where he was picked for Major League Baseball and by the Braves, White Sox and Royals multiple times, but declined. He went to University of Mississippi, where he played in the role of a quarterback for three years, receiving the Mississippi Sportsman of the Year award in 1969. Sadly, his father committed suicide and Archie discovered the body. Archie said that he considered dropping out and getting a job to support his mother and sister but his mother persuaded him to return to college and not put his rising football career to waste.
Archie‘s career as a professional football player started with the New Orleans Saints in 1971. During his ten seasons with this team, he was named NFC Player of the Year by UPI and All-NFC by UPI and The Sporting News, and received the Heisman Trophy in 1970. In 1978 he was picked for the Pro Bowl. Later he played with the Houston Oilers from 1982 to 1983, and then he joined the Minessota Vikings for a year. In 1989 for his achievements, Archie earned a spot in the College Football Hall of Fame. Manning‘s football career lasted 13 years, but despite that, not even once did the team he was in reach the playoffs.
Regardless, Archie Manning is considered one of the most successful players in NFL history, although his achievements are not always positive. He is ranked #46 on NFL All-time Pass attempts list, #56 in NFL All Time Gross Yards Passing list, #78 in NFL All Time Passing Touchdown list, #47 on NFL All Time Pass Completion list, #38 in NFL All Time Passes Intercepted list and #11 in NFL All Time Times Sacked list. He made it to the top ten with #8 spot on NFL All Time Yards Lost list. In 2007 Archie was awarded with the Silver Buffalo Award by the Boy Scouts of America, and in 2013 he joined the 13 inaugural members of the College Football playoffs.
In his private life, Archie has been married to Olivia Manning since 1971. She is a member of Delta Gamma and works a lot with charity and volunteer communities. They have three sons – Cooper, who was diagnosed with spinal stenosis at 18, and Peyton and Eli who are both NFL quarterbacks with the Denver Broncos and New York Giants respectively.
