Li Na is a former professional tennis player, born on 26 February 1982 in Wuhan, Hubei, China. During her career she was ranked world No.2 on the WTA Tour, won nine WTA singles titles and two Grand Slam singles. She was the first Chinese player to reach a Grand Slam singles quarterfinal at the 2006 Wimbledon championships, win a WTA tour title at the Guangzhou International Women’s Open in 2004, and the first to break into the world’s top 10.

Once again, Li managed to defeat world No.1, at the Australian Open in 2011, this time Caroline Wozniacki, and in June the same year she won her first major title at the French Open becoming the first tennis player from an Asian country to win a Grand Slam singles event. Her second Grand Slam title didn’t come until three years later, at the Australian 2014 Open.

After winning 184 singles matches, 34 doubles matches, nine titles including two Grand Slam singles, and two doubles titles and competing in 33 Grand Slams, Li announced her retirement in September 2014, due to a serious knee injury, ending her career ranked world No.6 by the Women’s Tennis Association. She was listed No.85 in the “Forbes Celebrity List” and listed among “100 Most Influential People in the World” by “Time” magazine. In April 2015, Laureus World Sports presented Li with the “Laureus Academy Exceptional Achievement” award.
