Alan Colmes Wiki Biography
Born Alan Samuel Colmes on the 24th September 1950 in Brooklyn, New York City USA, he was a radio and television host best known for his political shows on the Fox News Channel, such as Hannity & Colmes, and The Alan Colmes Show, among other successful enterprises. He passed away on in 2017.
Have you ever wondered how rich Alan Colmes was, at the time of his death? According to authoritative sources it has been estimated that Colmes’ net worth was as high as $12 million, an amount earned largely through his successful career on radio and television.
Alan was raised in Lynbrook, New York, on Long Island, and after matriculating from a public high school he enrolled at Ithaca College, and then transferred to the School of Communications at Hofstra University, from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Also while at Hofstra, Alan took his first steps towards a radio career, as he worked for the WRHU station owned by the university.
Before his political contributions on radio, Alan was firstly a stand-up comedian, finding engagement on various stations in New York and Boston, including WABC, WNBC, WEVD, WEZE and WZLX. He was hired full time firstly by WABC, where he did the morning drive time slot, under the pseudonym W Alan B.Colmes, then in 1987 he moved to WNBC, however, just a year later his career at WNBC was cut short as NBC decided to shut down the station. He then started Daynet with several other radio hosts, a nationally syndicated station, which was ultimately sold to Major Networks in 1994. Alan had his own show on the radio, then after the sale to Major Networks, his show was picked up by Fox News Radio. Two years later he became a full-time employee of Fox News, and since October that year he hosted “Hannity & Colmes” until January 2009. In 2003 he got his own show “The Alan Colmes Show”, which lasted until his death in February 2017, and which increased his net worth to a large degree.
Apart from his own shows, Alan has also contributed to several political shows on Fox News, both radio and television channels, including “The O’Reilly Factor”, “Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld”, among others which also added to his net worth.
Aside from broadcasting, Alan is also a published author, as he released the books “Red, White & Liberal: How Left Is Right and Right is Wrong” (2003), and “Thank the Liberals for Saving America” (2012), the sales of which also improved his wealth.
Known for his liberal points of view, he was described as “a hard-hitting liberal”, which brought him needed attention and a fan base, while also attracting those who opposed him.
Regarding his personal life, from 2003 until his death, Alan was married to Dr. Jocelyn E. Crowley, Ph.D, who is a sister of political commentator Monica Crowley. Alan died 23rd February 2017, after suffering from lymphoma.
