Adewale Ogunleye was born on 9 August 1977, in Brooklyn, New York City USA, of Nigerian descent, and is a retired professional American Football player, best known for playing in the National Football League (NFL) as a defensive end. He played 11 seasons in the league from 2000 to 2010, and all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

Adewale was educated at Tottenville High School, where he played football for the school’s team. After matriculating, he then attended Indiana University studying English and graduating in 1999. He played college football there, becoming a four-year starter, and the team captain and starting defensive end, performing strongly during his college tenure, break university records, and a three-time All-Big 10 selection. He was also named as part of the watch list of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. He received numerous honors, including mentions from several high profile magazines. He was also rated as the top NFL draft prospect, however, he suffered multiple ligament tears during his senior year which ended his college career.

The injury left Ogunleye out as a draft prospect, but in 2000 he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins. He had to spend his first year on the injured reserve list as he was recovering from his injury, but eventually entered the main roster the following season. He slowly started to regain his game and improve his statistics, and in 2004 he became a starter in the Pro Bowl after leading the AFC in sacks. He was given the Dan Marino Most Valuable Player of the Year award by the Dolphins during that season, and continued to play well with Miami, so in 2003 was named once again to the Pro Bowl.

Adewale was then traded to the Chicago Bears, and signed a six year contract which increased his net worth significantly. He became one of the top defensive players of the Bears, recording 10 sacks during the 2005 NFL season and was then named team captain. The following year, he would help the team reach Super Bowl XLI, although losing to the Indianapolis Colts. In 2009, Adewale’s season ended due to fracturing his left fibula, and the following year he signed a one year tender with the Houston Texans, and would end his playing career with them.

Over the course of 11 NFL seasons, Adewale recorded 398 tackles, 67.5 sacks, and 17 forced fumbles. He also had 14 fumble recoveries, 1 interception, and 2 safeties.

For his personal life, it is known that Ogunleye married celebrity dentist Dr. Amira Baker in 2014 – numerous athletes attended their wedding. They have a daughter, and often spend their free time travelling. Ogunleye continues to support the Miami Dolphins organization.
