Gary Robin Pinkel was born on 27 April 1952, in Akron, Ohio USA, and is a retired American college Football coach who is best known to have been the head coach of the University of Missouri Tigers football team. He also coached at the University of Toledo, but all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

Gary attended Kenmore High School, and after matriculating went to Kent State University, where he played for the Golden Flashes football team as a tight end. After graduating in 1973 with a degree in education, he started a coaching career at Kent State. He then moved to the University of Washington where he served as an assistant under Don James. He would be part of the coaching staff of Washington from 1979 to 1990, and spent the last six years there as an offensive coordinator.
Afterwards, Pinkel would become the head coach of the University of Toledo. During his time there, he would post a 73-37-3 record in the next 10 seasons. In 1995, he helped the Rockets finish at 11-0-1 with a win at the Vegas Bowl, becoming one of only three teams in the nation to finish undefeated. They won the Mid-American Conference championship in the same year. He would repeat a similar win streak in 2000, with a 10-1 record. After the 2000 season, he became the head coach of the University of Missouri Tigers. In the next 15 years, he would help the Tigers get to 10 bowl games, six of which they would win. Their first bowl game was in 2003 which was a loss. They would win it in 2005 against the University of South Carolina. Their next win would be in 2007 which Gary led the team to an 11-1 season finishing in the top spot.
Other achievements he made include helping the Tigers end a 24 year losing streak to Nebraska. In 2007, he helped the Tigers get a Big 12 North Championship and a Cotton Bowl Classic victory. The following year, they would get another Big 12 North Championship despite a tough season. It marked the team’s first back-to-back 10 win season, at the end of which they also won the Alamo Bowl.
Pinkel was signed to a seven year contract in 2008, which increased his net worth significantly. Two years later, he would help the Tigers get their first win over the Oklahoma Sooners since 1998.
The Tigers soon moved to the Southeastern Conference, and after struggling in the 2012 season, they bounced back in the next two seasons, winning their division. In 2015, he announced his retirement, as he had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
For his personal life, it is known that Gary was married to Vicki from 1973 until 2012 when they divorced. According to an interview, his would like to spend his remaining years with friends and family.
